I want AKV!

We would be looking for one-bedroom standard or savannah views so maybe we'll be ok (fingers crossed).

1BR's seem to be the easiest of the units to get, from what I've seen. I think that's the mechanics of studio popularity combined with unused 2BR inventory leading to more of an opportunity of 1BR availability..but that's just a hunch.

There are PLENTY of standard and/or savanna rooms to be had, IMHO. The anecdotal evidence around the DIS boards seems to show people have had LOTS of success, so far, booking them at 7 months out. The "short supply" categories of rooms seem to be the value and, obviously, the concierge, units...which seem to be gone within weeks (if not days or hours) of the opporunity to book them.

So I think you'll have a pretty good shot, going forward, of getting what you want. Remember that AKV is MUCH larger than BCV or VWL..and is larger than BWI, too. I don't think you'll see as much of a supply issue as you have at the smaller resorts...maybe, eventually, but I'd be willing to risk it for awhile, to see.

At some point, you might want to do some sort of swap, but I wouldn't head down that path until/unless I found myself getting locked out at the 7 month mark.

If you're an OCD planner (like me) who feels they HAVE to book SOMETHING at 11 months, maybe make a ressie at SSR at 11 months, and then call back at 7 months and "swap" it for AKV (cancel SSR if there is AKV availability, and then book AKV)? Just my suggestion.

I feel just like you! I bought into SSR but my real love is AKL. In fact, we were at AKL last year and then this year in Feb. went "home" but I kept thinking about AK the first few days. I don't know if it's because i was born in Africa or what, but I missed AK terribly to the point that I could not enjoy SSR for the first few days. I had to just shake it off and learn to appreciate SSR for what it is with the help of my DH constantly pointing out the good things.

Do you ever wish you could trade with someone? I have thought about how nice it would be to find someone that loves SSR more than AKL and just swap with me but that is just wishful thinking! But isn't Disney all about dreaming??????

I would stick with SSR and try to get into AKV at the 7 month window. If you sold SSR right now, you'd DEFINITELY lose. I've seen MANY resales at $65 a point for SSR!!!!
