I just had to announce that. My boyfriend and I vacation in Disney twice a year and I think he may love it just a teeny bit more than I do! If I had it my way I would live in the Polynesian. I'd even settle for just living on the beach there. I reallllly want to have a DFTW but I can't talk my boyfriend into it. He doesn't want a huge wedding but he wants all of our family and friends to be able to go. I would rather get married down there just us and maybe our immediate family/friends. He's afraid to burden them with the cost and the minimum prices scare him because we'll be paying for our wedding completely by ourselves without any help from our families (not because they don't love us and approve, but because they both can't afford it and are going through hard times financially). He isn't even sure how to afford a wedding, but little does he know he'll be marrying THE discount queen! princess: Give me ebay and 20 minutes and I can find anything for 1/2 the price. We're not engaged yet so I have time to talk him into it. I was talking to my mom about maybe getting married in Disney to see if she'd be crushed about not going and she told me to tell her now and she would start saving to have enough money to fly down to be there for us. My heart melted, but then I thought of what a financial burden that would be and from Massachusetts to Orlando, that really would be asking a lot of our families. Half of me realllllly wants to do a DFTW and the other half feels too guilty to even think about it. I know either way we will Disneymoon so that makes me happy. This is an entire post about absolutely nothing but I had to get it out somewhere. Thanks for reading!

welcome to the boards!!

All i want to say is .....never give up your dream!!!

If you plan it far enought out, you can make it happen for you & any guests.

I would love for a family/friend to get married in WDW...then i could have an excuse to go!!!;)

DFTWs are doable on almost any budget...you just need to decide whats important(really important) to you & db.

I hope youll stick around & keep us posted!!:goodvibes

I think we're twins! I have all the same concerns - cost, distance, etc - except I was able to sell DF on a DFTW when I told him we could have a huge casual (i.e., cheap) reception for all 6 bazillion of his relatives when we get home! However, I still worry that he will change his mind when we finally tell our families what we're doing b/c he worries a lot about what his family thinks. Ack!

One thing that's helping us out that you could do (or may already be doing) is signing up for a Disney Rewards Visa to earn points, signing up for the Disney Honeymoon registry, and doing Sunshine Rewards to earn Disney gift cards. That way, I figure, you *have* to go to Disney because you have all these Disney Dollars! :lmao:

I have $3,000 on my Disney Rewards Visa card right now and I've earned almost nothing! I don't know if I'm doing something wrong but I put major purchases on that card purposely to earn points! All the reasons you mentioned are why I would feel guilty having a DFTW. I absolutely love his family but I'm just so-so on mine and I really don't want a gigantic family wedding (on my mom's side alone I have 25 aunts and uncles) because I don't want to deal with them and their 80,000 children. I make them sound horrible. They aren't, my aunts are just spoiled rotten and live above their means because they like pretending to have a lot of money. They also LOVE to gossip about every other family member. I want my wedding to be special and shared by close friends and family who I know wouldn't miss it for the world...but I can't invite some family and not others, ya know? All I know is I want to be married by the mouse! Well, not by the mouse, but you get the idea.

This is very true. I wish we had started earlier, because we're planning on marrying next year but no later than 2009. Our income will double next summer but that still isn't a whole lot of time to plan an entire budget wedding. I know my family would start saving if I gave them a date at least a year from now, but I don't want to fulfill all my dreams and completely forget about the dreams of my future husband. I should probably not worry about this until I'm officially engaged though, huh? :rotfl:
