I want a "Disney Classics" channel....

First, a few disclaimers...

1. I know this may not be the forum for this thread. But since it stems from an episode of "Connecting with Walt" that I listened to this morning, I figured this was as good a place as any. Plus, I trust you people when it comes to Disney takes more than I trust any of the other forums on this board.

2. I'm old-school. So I realize that what I'm about to propose flies in the face of our digital culture, where we have YouTube, Netflix, and all kinds of other streaming services. But I'm a simple man. I don't stream anything, I have Dish Network and DVR and a blu-ray player that I rarely use. So if you're gonna say "well, actually, this is already available on HuluSlingXboxLiveTinderNetflixFarmersOnly.Com" or whatever....don't come at me, bro.

Having said that....I want a Disney Classics television channel.

There's enough programming to last an entire year and not show the same thing twice.

-Early animated shorts
-"Wonderful World of Disney" episodes
-"Mickey Mouse Club" episodes, both the original version(ANNETTE!!!) and the reinvented version
-ALL Disney animated features, instead of the same 10-15 they seem to cycle through on Disney Channel and FreeForm.
-Live-action Disney feature films from the 60's through 80's. I have a fondness for these films, which I grew up watching on the original Disney Channel.
-Other Disney animated series, including the "DuckTales"-era shows from the early 90's through the earliest Disney Junior shows that no longer air.
-Documentaries that Walt produced, which so often go overlooked.

There's a lot more that I could list, obviously, but you get the picture. There's just so much out there, and I think it would work...

-It would require no "new" programming.
-The popularity of TCM's "Treasures from the Disney Vault" evenings shows that people would watch.
-I've seen 2-3 channels pop up on my channel guide over the past couple of years, channels that only show classic shows from the 50's through 80's.

So I think there's a market, a wealth of programming, and a nostalgia factor that would make it work. And I can't imagine that it would cost Disney THAT much to just develop it as an offshoot of the Disney Channel, much like they did with XD and Jr.

Am I crazy?

*please say no*

First off, if you are looking at any website related to farmersonly.com for classic Disney material, you are doing it wrong

second, I love the idea - i was thinking similarly after the recent DISPop episode focused on the Disney Afternoon cartoons (Ducktales, etc.) - I know they are having an updated version of Ducktales and perhaps Darkwing Duck coming too .... but I think it would be cool if they had a channel like you describe where the afternoon block is the classic Disney Afternoon cartoons ... then can have the older cartoons and/or Mickey Mouse club in the morning/daytime ... then like the Walt Disney presents or Wonderful World of Color in the evenings / primetime .... and the classic movies overnights or something

Maybe when their contract with Turner expires they could look into something like this ... I mean, there are enough channels out there that why couldn't this work?

Sarcasm/mockery.

Mods, please ban.

Well, speaking for me, here's your first problem. :)

I actually would love this; I do have Netflix and Hulu, but it's still the same 10-15 movies and if I want anything older I have to go hunt for it. I would love to see the older afternoon cartoons and even more would love to see the 40's/50's era movies that you can only find if you hit up a used books/moveis/music store. (Or someone will occasionally sneak it into YouTube.)

And dang it! Now I want barbeque.

I'd watch a dedicated real Disney channel. Some of the new animated and all of the live action stuff on now is just sooooooo bad. I miss the Disney afternoon line up.

I caught Dumbo on Disney Jr recently. It was awesome to see it, but it's so luck of the draw. And I definitely feel you on the live action and documentary thing. I never see those on TV.

Maybe they wouldn't want to make a channel like that because then people would just be glued to their TVs at home instead of going and spending money in their parks. LOL. I know I wouldn't want to leave my house. :rotfl2:

I want a channel with all the Wonderful World of Disney tv movies. There were so many from the 80s I cannot find, but would love to watch. If your channel was made I might consider getting cable. Of course nothing in my house would ever get done again....

I would love a channel like this. I would give up my Netflix, acorn, amazon etc. Please Disney give us what we want....................classic Disney. I'm so glad I bought all the Disney treasures years ago when they came out. I can still watch Zorro, Swamp Fox, Dr. Syn: The Scarecrow Of Romney Marsh etc.

So I love the 'old' 80s/early 90s cartoons that Disney put out. Chip and Dale's Rescue Rangers, Tale Spin, Duck Tales, all of them! I wore a Rescue Rangers shirt when I was at Garden Grill earlier this month and it sparked just this conversation with my server. We spent like 10 minutes discussing the merits of a channel like this! I would absolutely love it!

Heck, even if it was a streaming service, like Netflix or Hulu it would work. Give those of us who want to see these classics a change!

I wish this existed. I would love to see the old Wonderful world of Disney programs. As well as some of the old movies.

Anyone remember Vault Disney? They used to show Zorro, MMC, all the old classics back on Disney Channel in the early 2000s I think it was. They should have that one one of the Disney's channels - or even a late night rerun of Disney Afternoon cartoons, kind of like how Nickelodeon does with Nick Splat.

I have Dish TV too. Now I've got the theme song from Duck Tales and Gummi Bears running through my brain. Lol. Who remembers the Wuzzles? Are The Wonderful World of Disney the ones that came on Sunday nights when I would get to use my t.v. tray and eat dinner watching the movies? I'd love to see a channel like this. Good thinking Ilama!!
