I want a Digital SLR, LOL

LOL- When did the XTi become the Hummer of cameras? Sorry bro- I agree with your points but that just cracked me up. :rotfl:

nor does everyone feel the need to use Canon, to believe they are a photographer.., that's like saying if you don't have a hummer your suv is worthless

I never mentioned the XTI, I was referencing the other post saying CANON was the only camera worth having..:thumbsup2

I apologize if people think I am brand bashing... My husband and I are really into photography and do a lot of research. I don't have a problem with people using other cameras... I'm sorry if I offended anyone, it was not my intention.you will find that a lot of people here are really into photography, and do a lot of research

I've just grown up using Canon, my step father is a photographer and only shoots Canon, my husband and I are both photographers and only shoot canon, most of out photography buddies only shoot Canon. We do a lot of research on Canon and what they have to offer... They have something for everyone (from the beginner to the pro).

I've used MInolta for 32 years, but I will readilly admit there are other good brands out there..

Nikon also has something for everyone, and in a few months when Sony releases their pro level full frame DSLR, they will also have something for everyone..

I get a little into it when I start talking about photography, it's a great hobby to have, especially if you know what you are doing.

it all comes down to personal preference just as there is no one car that is best for everyone, the same goes for cameras...

welcome to the dis photography section, where owners of all brands and levels of cameras, peacefully co-exist and help each other in whatever way possible,

You did revive a three weeks dead thread just to make comments that were no longer needed.

Sorry but I disagree with you. I see no problem leaving comments on a thread from a few weeks ago. Go look in the lounge see how often threads there re-emerge from the "dead".
Also as far as the "no longer needed" part, who are you to say that info would not be helpful to someone else who came looking.
Maybe they could find what they needed in that thread instead of starting an entirely new thread thats basically just like what someone else asked.

:)

I agree with you, I'm always nervous to resurrect old threads because I think it bothers some people.

as we continue to slightly drift off topic for a moment, I a member of car forum. One the biggest things that will get you instantly criticized for and get your thread instantly locked is starting a thread talking about something thats already been talked or asked about in other threads. It makes it hard for someone trying to look for info when they have look through a gazillion threads(yes I am exaggerating the gazillion, probably only like bazillion
;) )
Now I will say this, because of the not so functional search feature this forum has, trying to look up what you need is kind of hard. I myself was not able to find a thread through the search even though I knew it existed.

Well, vflipo has said that she apologizes, so I will take her word on that, but give you my initial impression so you know where I was coming from.

I do not see any problems digging up something a little old if you are contributing some useful information, but that was not my first impression of vflipo's posts. As a new member coming in (not by join date, but by posts) and making what seemed to me to just be attention grabbing posts, I did not see any real contribution. I believe the, "hey, anyone know how to get a good deal on a really expensive lens that I am going to buy" comment did it for me. I saw that as more of an indirect bragging than a true question and I see no place for that on the Disboards. This is just my opinion though.

Nobody should be afraid to revive an old thread if you are really contributing, but it is downright annoying to revive one for other reasons. As a contra analogy to the car forum example, I have seen other forums ream people for bringing old stuff back to life. Luckily, this is a very nice forum and that was also a message I was trying to convey. If this wonderful board breaks down into some DPReview like place, it would be an absolute shame.

Does anyone else remember the good old days when our search worked? ;)

I'd really like to revive the thread about shallow depth of field because I found it really neat. I was nervous to do it though because I thought some would think that was the field assignment back in October. ;)

Emmabelle, I really don't think you should be nervous about reviving old threads like that around here. I do it sometimes if there's a subject I want to revisit. I don't belong to any other boards so I'm not really clear on "etiquette", but I can't imagine anyone upset with you for something like that. Go for it.

I only added that lens thing in there because I can't afford it but I really want it... I will probably never buy that lens unless I get a way better paying job... I really truly want to find it somewhere for less than when I have been able to so far. I figured since this was a photography thread someone might know of some resource of which I am not aware. I really truly am sorry if anyone thinks that I am arrogant or rude or anything like that. If you look at my other posts about disney stuff you will see that i am genuinely a nice person. I definitely do not like it when people view me as rude or dislike me, especially in a forum setting. I am a different person sometimes when it comes to photography (to be honest with you that whole post that made everyone upset was dictated to me by my husband... he can get worse too so I will no longer let him cruise disboards with me). I'm really really really sorry and I hope that you guys believe me :-/

I was at my local camera shop last night drooling at the canon L lens'. LOL

the L lenses are amazing! i wish i made more money because i would definitely want to buy some. we have 1 ... we got it through B&H (bhphotovideo.com) for a really decent price... but it still gave me a heart attack when we got our credit card statement. my husband complained that he wanted it for months and i finally gave in just to get him to stop whining... I think I made a mistake. haha

Stay away from the L lenses. The red ring on the end adds a color cast to closeups. They make everyone look sunburned. That's why the other brands use gold strips and lettering; it has a pleasant warming effect without hosing up the picture.
