I thought there were 3 more weeks of school left!?

School doesn't officially let out until the 25th of June. But yesterday (the 3rd!) I found out that my son's Seventh Grade Science class just wrote their final test, and will be spending the rest of the year brainstorming solutions for the oil spill - and then sending them to BP! :lmao:

I think its a fabulous real-world lesson plan - and kudos to the teacher - but I'm a little surprised that there's no more grading to be done. Apparently a number of the other classes are wrapping up next week.

I realize that nothing really happens during the last few days of school, but are those last few days typically the whole last 3 weeks? Did I just not notice before?

When do your schools stop formal, graded lessons?

For my 6th and 4th grader its today. The kids don't get out until next Wednesday. My 11th grader has a couple of things due next week and I know of 1 test.

Here we have snow days built into the year. Thats why they have a few free days.

In our board the report cards have to be finalized and submitted by the end of this week, although the last day of school is the 29th. They kids recieve their report cards on the last day of school!! (My ex inlaws are both teachers btw). The funny thing is my DD has a major project due on the 11th! Her teacher just commented that they have to keep the kids busy, or it would just be chaos!

the next two weeks the kids are doing community clean up and then the last week is the "Class-Olympics" and campaigning/voting for next years student council for the grade 6-8's.

Oh, that makes sense! Maybe it's the same here... I'm glad my son's keen on this BP project, though, or I might have my hands full convincing him to go to school for the next few weeks.

I know of several districts around here that turn grades in at least a week before school is done. Talk about a waste of time and money.

Kids' last day here -- if you consider it a day. DD (5th grade) starts at 8:00 a.m. and is done at 9:00 a.m. DS (10th grade) is in school for 1 1/2 hours, but has an exam.

Talk about a waste of resources. I know legally it needs to be XX amount of time to be considered an official day, but really. Between staffing and bus drivers, it's just a waste.

My dd is in the 4th grade and is in an AIG classroom for reading and math. She hasn't seen her AIG teacher since before the EOG's.....2 weeks ago!!! They only have 4 more school days, so I'm guessing that the whole last month was a wash.

When I was in high school, classes were done a week before the last day of school. For the last week, we took "mini courses" that we got to sign up for. They were fun things like learning to paint, skateboarding, "smart shopping" - which was really just visiting local malls, learning to cook, visiting local touristy places.. stuff like that. It was a nice way to relax and end the school year.

ours stopped last Friday school is out next Tuesday.

now theyre doing games and reading and whatever.

The issue Im having is that our school is being completely refurbished this summer. So the kids go from 8:30 to 10:30 on Tuesday. EVERYONE must be out of the building by 11 because the demo crews pull in at 11:30

Isnt that a little extreme?

School is done here for my kids on Tuesday of next week. DSD started finals today. There are three classes scheduled per day for 3 days. You only have to be there when you have finals scheduled, so today, she was done with school at 10:30. DS had a half day of school today (complete with a spelling test!), full day on Monday, and half day again on Tuesday.

Our HS students just don't attend the last 2 weeks of school, I kid you not. Sure, it was great when I was there, but dd13 will be there next year!

I stopped taking grades about a week and a half before school got out. However, I didn't tell the kids that. :thumbsup2 We kept going with normal curriculum until the last two days.

We let up on the last day, but the day before was full off instruction.

I think that's an excellent project for your son's class, but surely they won't be doing it the full three weeks!

He seems to think so, but who knows? They've certainly had projects before that have gone on for weeks at a time...

The last day of our marking period is June 11th. I have to have my report cards finished by June 14th. School doesn't get out until June 23rd. I don't grade work in between that time. Once report card grades are done, we do end of the year review work and they check it themselves.

One of my students was trying to convince me that they shouldn't have to do work after the 11th because it wouldn't "count". I just did this > :rotfl2:

My DS's last day is next Wednesday, the 9th. They haven't done anything all week. I think the last 'official' grades were taken last Friday. Monday was a holiday and Tuesday was Field Day.

The teacher didn't say anything but there was no homework this week and he's brought text books to keep at home every day this week so I don't think they are doing much.

Next week is a joke. It is all 1/2 days. Monday is "Beach Reading Day" where they bring beach towels and books and sit outside and read all day. Tuesday is "Game Day" where they can bring a board game from home in and they play those the whole time. Wednesday they get report cards, sign yearbooks, do the final clean out & say goodbye.

Frankly, I wish they had been let out the 28th and they could have mailed the final report cards.

1st grade teacher chiming in :teacher:

Last day for our students is June 15th....

Our report cards are all done electronically & we were supposed to begin inputting our grades on May 26th. We had to be completed no later than this past Wednesday (this is county-wide), so ALL grading is done. :cool1:

I am not collecting one more paper.

Seniors got out yesterday, graduation is tonight, the rest of the kids get out on the 11th, they are still doing graded work--our twins got a huge science packet to complete over the weekend. Finals are Thursday and Friday, teachers go all of the following week, report cards are mailed home on the 18/19th (whatever that Friday is). DS17 checked out about mid February :lmao::lmao::lmao:

ds's last day was yesterday-last graded assigment i'm aware of was due last tuesday.

dd's last day is this thursday-she started finals yesterday, finishes them monday and tuesday. the seniors at her high school graduate today-they took their finals week before last, and don't attend next week (she was blown away when i told her that when i was in high school we graduated on a thursday nite but had to attend on that friday-the school ensured it by handing us the diploma holders during graduation, but when we opened them there was a preprinted note telling us we had to attend the next day to receive the actual diploma otherwise the school would hold them and not mail them out until staff returned the following august).
