DS15 calls me from his bedroom. He went up to bed early at 9PM on his own and I wondered what was up. He says to me "I puked, can you come up?" I go up there and there is the hugest puddle of puke I have ever seen come from a human being. I mean, it was huge and deep and took me 45 minutes to clean. I threw out the rug, it was soaked right through.

I prided myself on the fact that my kids all knew how to make it to the toilet-they are 8, 11, 12, and 15. Yea-I finally reached that stage! DS was asleep and woke up and his mouth was flooded with saliva like right before you're about to puke, he did it over the side of his bed.

I was soooo grossed out cleaning it-he kept apologizing and I kept telling him not to-that's what mommies are for.

Honestly, the worst mess I have EVER cleaned up, including dirty diapers.

Cleaning up barf is the worst. What really concerns me is that I thought I was passed that point too and my kids are 3 and 6, I guess I have a ways to go huh?

Oh yuck. I'd be surprised if you were completely done with this though, there's often a few episodes during the teenage years and you have 4 kids getting to be that age. Put a wastebasket nearby just in case or you might be replacing several rugs over the next several years. :rolleyes1

Yuck- but he must have been pretty sick to not make it to the bathroom in time, poor kid.

DD thankfully doesn't get sick to her stomach often- I can count on one hand the number of times she has thrown up (after baby spitup age). When she does, though, it's memorable! About 6 months ago, she puked all over the bathroom floor- three times in a row. I kept telling her to do it in the toilet, but she barfed all over the floor. I think it took me 30 minutes at least to get everything off the floor, walls, tub, and toilet. Of course, it was about 3am when all this happened, too. Blech!!!

I have a friend that pays her kids $1 to puke in a waste basket when they are sick. She keeps one in their room and when they are sick they puke it the basket, because they know they can earn $$$$. I thought this was brilliant, I tried it on my almost 3 year old last time he got sick....he really wasn't interested :scared1:, but with a teenager if you uped the ante to $5, it might just make it worth their while!!!!

He didn't help you?

:lmao: (That WAS a joke, right? Please tell me that was a joke.)

OP, I do the same thing my mother always did: I tell my kids that I'd rather they throw up in the trash can I always keep by their beds. Or, if they can't make that, I'd rather they puke on the comforter than on the rug (we have wall-to-wall carpet - can't toss that away!).

BTW, cleaning up puke always makes me want to puke. That's why it's DH's job! :rotfl:

EWWWWW

That being said, I always tell my daughter that if she has to barf and can't make it to the bathroom, make it to a room with no carpet :lmao:

Luckily, she doesn't get sick very often. That may change when she hits 18 and can start drinking. :rotfl2:

haha...it doesnt end at 15 either. I have been at Community College for the past two years so i'm living at home and when I was 19 I got really really sick. I had a fever of 105 and threw up all over my bedroom floor. Luckily it was a wood floor. But even at 19, my dad still came in and cleaned it up. That wasnt the worst part though. It got so bad and we couldnt keep my fever down so we went to the ER. Yup...threw up in the car twice during the 20 minute ride to the ER. I was there for a week. I think my dad was still cleaning out the car when I was discharged....haha

I think it's something that lasts until they are permanantly out of the house...haha

A few years ago, my brother got a stomach bug the day after thanksgiving. Then that night I got it and puked a few times in the night. The following day I was still feeling crappy and couldn't eat. That night, Kari got it on the way home from work. We pulled over to a walgreens because she thought she had to number 2... nope, sitting on the pot she managed to puke all over the bathroom floor. I peaked in the storage closet outside the bathroom and found some cleaner stuff. Used a whole lot of paper towels and toilet paper, but got it cleaned up.
Unfortunately the stench was so bad that I couldn't stay in there for very long to help her without wanting to puke myself.

Don't worry, over the next 5 years I got my revenge. I was the one that ALWAYS had to clean up the dog messes. And she would always find the carpeting to puke or poop on if we weren't home. One apartment we were in, she'd always go in the spare bedroom... I think it took two steam cleanings before moving out to make sure it was clean.

I guess it depends how sick you are.

My morning sickness had me blessed with many many opportunities to get it right. But sometimes---I didn't make it. It looked like a crime scene on the way to the bathroom.

I hope your son is feeling better.

Hey, last weekend that was us! My husband got sick somewhere around 4:30 in the morning, then our 13 year old (he did not make it to the bathroom), then my DH says, "Can you clean up the mess upstairs?"
I did not realize I had the virus too and about 20 min later after TRYING to clean up our sons mess, I was sick!!

Maybe your son had the same virus?

We have a "barf bowl". For the car I have a "barf bucket".

However sometimes it just happens.

My 19yodd was the puker and I became a pro at that expect for once.

We had eaten at Steak N Shake and she has a large chocolate milkshake and dinner.

After she had fallen asleep she puked all over her bed. WORST BARF EVER.

We had to throw away everything. We tried to save the mattress. We cleaned that sucker every which way we could using every technique known to man for 3 months. We had to put it in the basement it was so rank. Never could get the smell out.

:crazy2:

UGH...this makes me gag just thinking about it. I don't do barf...at all. My hubby can't do poop so we have a pact. If the baby/toddler had diarrhea I was the cleaner upper. For some bizarre reason that doesn't bother me at all. Barf? Totally his job. Just hearing someone throwing up makes me dry heave. *shiver*

One time my hubby was on a business trip and my son who was maybe 4 at the time threw up all over his bed. I was just beside myself. Poor kid. I took his entire bedding, four cornered it, and took it straight to the laundry room and threw it all in. Then I took him, his pillow, an extra comforter and put him in the tub to sleep for the night. Best idea EVER! His pediatrician told me about doing this. He said, it's nice and cool, close to the toilet, and keeps their heads slightly elevated so it helps settle the tummy, and it's easily washable!

So yea, if you see a pillow and comforter in my tub don't be alarmed. :rotfl2:

My youngest was the car-sick puker. I used to keep ziploc bags in the car because of it. If I couldn't stop on the side of the road quick enough, those bags saved me many of times. Especially when you are on the toll road and traffic was thick. Before we figured out the ziploc bag, I don't know how many times we had him in his carseat, shirtless, because of the puke all over it. I became adept at taking the padding off of the carseat, washing it and putting those "Christmas tree" pins back in.

Thankfully house pukes are not common. I think I will go out and buy trashcans for all the bedrooms now. (Just in case)

Last year when my 14YO daughter had the swine flu, she was too weak to move enough to vomit into anything, the poor thing :( She got as close to the edge of the bed as she could and just let it go. I was in there constantly with her, and was cleaning/sanitizing constantly for a week straight... and I'd do it again if I had to :lovestruc but this year we're taking LOTS of precautions, and we all have insurance so flu shots are DEFINITELY on the agenda! :thumbsup2

LOL.... this would be a great tag!

I remember throwing up next to my bed one time, I was about 6 or 7... my Mom worked nights so I went to tell my dad and he made me clean it up so he wouldn't have to get out of bed... :sad1:
