I thought all passes had the same pool of reservations availability...

I though it was the same number of reservations for all passholders but it seems thats not the case. I got a dream key for myself to get discounts and parking, and believe for my son but we its showing availability for me and not him. If I click on both our passes though it will show no availability because of my son's pass. Im hoping some of the pass experts can provide some insight if I'm seeing this correctly. Thanks!

Yup, there are separate buckets. We've discussed this a bit and it's been mentioned on a few Disney podcasts. This makes it hard for families to have more than one pass type. I'd suggest you consider upgrading your child's pass if this continues to be an issue.

Thanks DLgal. I think I might have to now that I know this unfortunately. Or just go when my sons pass is available. Which feels like it defeats the purpose of the dream key in a way 🙁

Does anyone think Disney is going to change this? Because it feels super wrong that someone with the cheapest pass could potentially get a reservation for a day and someone who paid for the top Dream pass could not get that same day.

I don't think Disney will change it. Although I could be wrong as Hong Kong Disneyland did change it after many people made angry phone calls about it. Originally, each pass had a different reservation pool so for key dates, Platinum passes HAD to book at midnight 9 days in advance at midnight when the reservation window opened up as everything would be gone in an hour or two but Gold passes had loads of availability when their reservation window opened up 8 days in advance. Now, all the passes and regular ticket holders in Hong Kong pull from the same pool.

This is key. If people don't write/call/email/etc. Disney management, nothing will happen. Keyholders need to let Disney know how unhappy they are with the current system. Complaints on this board might be seen by someone at Disney -- but who knows? Sending the complaints directly to Disney can be more effective.

I mean, Disney did not detail this information when the passes were released. I don’t understand the point of it honestly.

I was going to get a Dream Key for myself and Believe for my son … it’s already a terrible situation with reservations but now I know it’s going to be a double nightmare to get reservations that line up if our passes aren’t the same. Why is Disney making this so dang hard?

What is the best way?

The impression that I got from Hong Kong was that it was lazy IT rather than something they even thought about from the beginning. I guess they thought it was easiest to have each pass link to a calendar and have calendar control the blockouts, reservation windows and reservation availability which led to problems. But I don't know if this is the case for the US side. Compared to Hong Kong and Tokyo, Disneyland management seems a lot more focused on forcing their own agenda upon guests rather than responding to what guests are ask for.

"Options" and Disney has created several with the reopening of the parks.

If pass holders plan far enough in advance I wouldn't think getting reservations on the same days for different level passes to be a problem for families.

The options are basically fee for service.
One Park Tickets - Hopper Tickets - Magic Key Passes....
Adding Genie+ and/or Individual Lightening Lane tickets....
When you pay more you're buying more and should get more.

I feel it is perfectly fair Disney has more days available for the higher level Magic Key Passes.
After all Disney is charging for these options.

If it is going to be an issue for families then they should all purchase the same level pass or learn to go with the flow.

That’s not what’s happening, though. The days that are different appear to be cancellations, so it means a lower pass might randomly see a day open that a higher pass doesn’t.

The release of reservations by Disney doesn’t seem to differentiate between the pass levels. Until a day “sells out,” all passes have the same access (barring blackouts, obviously).

I’m still curious which pass is linked to the official AP calendar. I’m guessing it’s Dream since I’ve never seen a difference between what’s on there and what I can book?

Exactly! If the highest level pass had more options, I would expect that. Except tonight the lowest level pass had access to a date I need but the highest level did not. It is nonsensical to me.

Right now there are no weekend days available for the next three months, so for people buying the pass today, your only option is to pick up cancellations. And since the reservation availability varies by pass type, it’s even harder to match up. I’m not talking about wanting next-day reservations. To not be able to get anything for 90 days feels wrong.

It must be cookie-based. I see the Imagine calendar (which reflects my Key) when I look at that page and click on "Annual Passes."

But what do you see if you don’t have a pass yet?
Good question. I just tried from an incognito window, and still got the "Imagine" level calendar.

I'm sure it's already been pointed out, but that page still uses "AP" in the URL, and "Annual Passholders" for the tab titles. I'm amused.

Nope... sorry... I was wrong. I was misreading the calendar. I think it shows the Dream level. At the moment, the "no reservations available" and the "Imagine Blockout Dates" are almost the same thing... whoops!

Sorry all!!!

It could still be what is happening though. If they sold more Dream keys than any other level, and they allocated more reservations to Dream keys, but they were all booked up, it stands to reason there could still be availability for lower tier passes on any given day and none left for Dream keys. If a larger proportion of key holders are all the same type and gunning for the same share of reservations, it will sell out faster for that group.

Yeah, it certainly could have been organized that way, but they "sell out" for everyone at the same time (and when Disney releases new batches, those calendars look the same for everyone, too). I follow people on IG who have different Magic Keys, and the days disappear at the same time across the key levels, so it doesn't seem like Disney is releasing them as different "buckets." The differences reported seem to be for cancellations.

I only have Dream Keys, so I haven't even been able to "see" that for myself, but people like the OP here who have different passes in the same account have mentioned this, and that Twitter account differentiates pass type cancellations... so it does seem like it's a thing.

Yeah, the link definitely shows the Dream Key in terms of there being no blackout dates, but I was curious if it's linked to a specific cancellation "bucket" - or perhaps any type of Magic Key cancellation shows up there?

I'm interested because I have a friend who's considering buying Magic Keys, and I sent her the link to that calendar so she could see how the cancellations open up each night for the next day. But she's looking at buying an Enchant Key, I think - so I may be giving her bad information if that calendar doesn't apply to her. Maybe only Dream Keys have that kind of "day before" movement happening?
