Well we got all our questions answered last night - mostly questions about how it works being Canadian.

I think we're going to buy AKL. 160 points for now and see over the next few years if we need more or can live with 160

This is a big step but we go down every other year and sometimes every single year

i think what helped us make up our minds was when we did the math and even if we renewed an ap every year and didn't use it next year it is still cheaper then getting a new one every 2 years or buying a 10 day park pass then a 2 day park pass since we have always gone for 10 - 12 days and never less. We drive down so we make it worth our while and stay as long as we can.

Right now we have 1 child who is only 17 months old so staying in a Studio for the next 8-10 years works for us and should we need a 1 or 2 bedroom later who knows we may have bought 50 - 100 more points by then.

i love that it's not your typical time share because i like the idea of one year going to VT instead or Hilton Head for a week on our way down to visit Patrick's aunt and uncle and nip in for 2-3 days at "Home"

not that it makes any difference but I was a bit surprised to find out there will be a $350 us fee on closing which adds over $400 CDN but at least we know it before we sign.

What i really like is that we can bank our points from this year, use them next year, bank next years points and use them with 2009 and take my parents on a cruise for their 50th anniversary.

i guess we just have to wait for our DVC contact to come back later this week to get the process started.

Congratulations on your decision to buy DVC. We bought in 2002 and never regretted the decision. We have even added on over the years. With cheap flights from Buffalo it makes for a reasonable family vacation to the Magical Place on Earth. We feel we have saved a lot of money on rooms during that time.

Congrats and Welcome Home!!!! We also are DVC members and love it. Trust me 160 points won't nearly be enough. We started out at 160 and added on within 2 weeks. We now own 380 points and always seem to use them all. This year we have a Grand Villa at OKW for 8 days. We're taking my parents as well as my brother's family. 7 in all. Can't wait.

Don't take my postings from the other thread to heart. I'm just explaining why it won't work for us. I think it would be great to own at AKL. Enjoy!

Congrats, yes its really exciting. We decided to last year and we are yet to take a trip home. I had intended that we take a cruise but when I looked into it it really didn't save us a great deal and we get so much better value at the DVC resorts which enabled us to treat our parents.

We have annual passes with the discount (remember its a perk and they can take it away!!) and are doing three trips within a year. Next week OKW with my best friend from the UK (she's renting points from me which pays the maintenance fee and gives her a break). In December SSR, we're treating my parents, then next March break ??? but probably staying both the weekends at HH.

I found the DVC boards really helpful in understanding the rules and getting information but I've been following the Canadian boards lately and there's great information and people here.

We put the purchase on our CC which goes part-way to purchasing a flight with aeroplan.

Once again, warm congrats and best wishes on your purchase, oh and try not to get 'addonitis', lack of funds means I can resist .... for the moment.
