Micky and me do work for our landlord to get money off of our rent sometimes. He's a professional painter, so it involves things like that. She asked him to do her cabinets in her house, he gave her a price (which is very cheap for her compared to regular rates) , and she set the date for when he was to do it. Well, she changed it from last Saturday until today. Now, I asked her when she changed it if she was sure she was going to use Micky and she said yes. So he went out and got new drop cloths and special brushes and stain. (she was buying the paint) Now we are using money that was for rent due this week to pay for it, and since we know the amount to deduct from the rent, I (stupidly) paid some bills with the money.

This morning she calls and cancels on him, (he was already on his way there) He gets there, she says she wants to buy new cabinets, and he has to leave.

I know she had a right to change her mind, but when you agree on the price, set the date, and already buy the supplies, I think she should have never told us it was a for certain job.

I don't know if I should be angry or not, but I feel like she took of advantage of Micky because she knows us.

Now we have to find the extra money for rent to make up for what he already spent on supplies and bills.

I know I shouldn't have spent some of the money before he did the job, but I never she thought she would do this!

Guess I learned my lesson the hard way.

I don't know how you would do this. But I would still deduct what you paid out for the promised job, from the rent. You didn't back out, she did.

I don't know what you would do if she fights you on it though.

I can't really do anything, I was talking to my dad and he basically said tough luck!!:p Just next time she asks us to do something like this, tell her no.

Oh well, you win some, you lose some.

Since you haven't used any of the supplies, can you return them for a refund? Even if you can only return some of them, you could recoup some money.

I was thinking the same thing Kylara said. Unless the paint was specially mixed, couldn't he return it?
