i'm so depressed i could vomit.

DH and i are all set to go to WDW on january 24th with our son who will be 7 months at the time. i've been planning since pretty much before he was born. i have every list imaginable and i'm so ready to go. sure, i'm anxious about traveling and everything but once we're there i'll be so happy to be in DISNEY!!!

for the last two weeks though, DS has been waking up in the middle of the night SCREAMING! two nights ago he was up from 1:30am - 4:30am and we couldn't get him back to sleep at all. last night was better with him only up for an hour or so. still, he's really been upset. i don't know if it's teething or the fact that we've introduced solids and he's extra gassy or what...but i don't think we can have him screaming in a hotel room all night. imagine being next to a screaming baby??!! i just couldn't do that to my fellow disney travelers.

my only hope is that he'll get over this phase, if it is one, by the time we go. or maybe since it's january and not as busy we can request that nobody be on either side of us (doubtful they can accommodate that).

he's totally fine during the day and absolutely LOVES going out for walks in the stroller, going to the zoo, and today even we're heading out to the aquarium so i really think that he'll love all the things to look at in disney. but, ugh, i don't know. :(

I'm hoping this is a real short phase and he'll be fine in a couple of days. Maybe he's getting a tooth?

This was a phase for both my girls which didn't last longer than a few weeks. But the food issue is certainly a possibility.
My DD did not sleep well on her first trip. She was 9 months. We got less sleep, she woke a lot crying, slept in the bed with us, etc. The nights were hard but our days were no less successful. We were all pretty exhausted by the end of the week, though.
We were at the Dolphin and never could hear our neighbors, so I'm not sure anyone could hear her. We have been at WL with a connecting door before and did hear crying kids in the next room. It is part of being a WDW, but it can be very frustrating.
I would give it another week and see how he's doing. You'll be surprised how fast things change for him at this young age.

Hang in there momma - all this lack of sleep will do a number on your brain. The depression probably has as much to do with that as with your concern for the trip. Get out in the sunshine and take care of yourself!

My ds did this, too. He was a great sleeper until about 8 months. I think it was new foods that triggered some intestinal cramps.

Try Mylicon drops. They worked like a charm (within minutes) for baby gas.

Hang in there.

Could be the food, but could also definately be a tooth! My youngest dd would not be able to sleep (and also screamed all night when her 1 yr old molars were coming in) BUT the tooth never broke the skin until several weeks after her discomfort - so at the time, I never thought it was teething pain, kwim? Then when the tooth would come through the gums - I would connect the two.

((hugs)) I hope it works out!!

Have you taken him to a doctor to make sure he doesn't have an ear infection? My DD wouldn't show any symptoms during the day, but laying down at night caused too much pressure, and she would wake up crying. If you can't figure anything out, ask about being put in a room that is on a corner and maybe doesn't have anyone next door on one or both sides. It doesn't look like you are going at a time when the resort will be fully booked. If you explain the situation, they may be able to help. Then they don't have to deal with anyone complaining about a crying baby. I wouldn't worry too much about bothering other people, though. I've never found the walls at WDW to be paper-thin. Most people are so tired at night at Disney, they'll probably sleep through your baby crying, anyways ;) I would try the Mylicon, some Baby Motrin (in case of teething pain), or teething gel, if your ped. can't find anything. Good luck, and have a great trip!

This is what I was thinking, too. One time, my oldest dd seemed fine during the day, but cried all night long. It was an ear infection. She was about 9 months old when she had her first one.

If it's not anything medical, and just "one of those things" then you could always change your room to a cabin at Ft. Wilderness. No one will hear your baby cry! lol.

I've never had a problem with crying babies keeping me up at night at WDW. I wouldn't worry about it.

thank you all for your kind replies. i hadn't thought of an ear infection. i'm going to look up the symptoms right now. i'm still bf'ing and sort of just ignorantly thought that bf'ed babies don't get ear infections too often.

i will also ask for a corner room. i really don't want to cancel. we just got back from the ny aquarium and it seemed like he was having a blast looking around.

i may call POFQ ahead of time. i know they can't guarantee anything but i'd like to just talk to them about my predicament. i hope our night issues are resolved. i want to go so badly. motrin and teething tablets aren't working so well. this poor little guy. i really don't want to disturb other vacationers.

thanks again!

BF babies can get ear infections. Both of my boys were and they had many ear infections. It could be anything at this point.

Pixie dust to you!!! Could be an ear infection (definite possibility) or has the baby learned a new skill, like sitting up or crawling. Sometimes when babies learn new skills that do them in their sleep. Then they wake up from it and then of course they are mad because they woke up. :headache:

My youngest one gave me a heck of a time around this age. He would crawl in his sleep and then get mad because he was awake.

I pray you get through this soon, before your trip.

KristiMC - good to know! all the pro-BF'ing materials talk about how they don't get ear infections...and i took that as truth.

i put a call into our doctor just now to talk to her about the possibility of an ear infection.

shilomoon - thomas is sorta kinda sorta kinda maybe sitting up on his own a bit. just in the last day or two i've been propping him up and he's been able to sit there for a bit (i'm right behind him just in case). maybe that's it?

geez, it's hard being a baby!

IF you can not find a medical reason why he is doing it - it might just be a phase. How about changing your reservation to fort wilderness cabins so you are not right on top of someone else.

My bfed kiddos all got ear infections too! Plus they can get one and not have any other symptoms! Many times they don't even get a fever. Best of luck to you...and be sure to take along a sling or wrap and then you can wear him around the parks too!

that sounds like a really good idea. the only problem is that upgrading to the cabins from POFQ is a little too pricey for us.

Both girls exclusively BF and one had more ear infections than the other 4 kids combined. Go figure.

Also, when DS was almost 18 months we flew to WDW with DS(3) and DS(4). The plane flight affected his ears and ended up with an ear infections....which we did not think of at the time. And that to the kinda scarey crib that the Yacht Club had (way back then) baby DS would not sleep at all. I was 6+ months preg. and spent 3 nights walking the halls of the Beach/Yacht Club to keep him quiet. We even switched out the crib for the pack-n-play that he was used to but he was not going to have any of it. Ugggg.

To make matters worse we were on some bargarin airlines, the flight was so delayed that we did not leave Orlando when we should have been landing in NC. BabyDS cried the entire flight home. To the annoyance of many and the sympathies of some. The much put-out flight attendant asked if we would be getting of in NC or traveling on to DC. He'd prob kick us off.

All that said, please have your little guys ears checked. Also, teething is so hard on little ones. Tylenol for teething. Mylcon gas drops saved us with DD#1...he had them twice daily for 4 months.

Try not to worry and wishing you a great trip.

We loved homeopathic remedies for teething; the Hyland's stuff worked much of the time, but we generally had the individual bits of Hylands around to really match his symptoms when he needed some help. DS started teething at 4 months, so I had a lot of experience...

It could absolutely be the food. If that had happened when DS started having food, I would have stopped the food. Would have figured DS wasn't ready for it yet. No need to experiment with food this young; just wait until his tum can handle it better. Would be the quickest way to figure out if that's what the problem is!

the doctor just called me back. she said that it sounds like teething but that if it continues and he has a fever or a bit of a cold i should bring him in to have his ears checked. i may just bring him in on monday anyway. better be safe than sorry.

My little one is 5.5 months, and whenever she is going through a milestone growth spurt (rolling over or sitting up) she sleeps TERRIBLY! Up every couple of hours at night, restless during the day. She just recently started sitting up on her own without assistance, and for about a week prior she was just a cranky baby!

Really sounds as though the little one is in pain :( Ears, teeth or tummy. Hugs to all of you having to cope with it. The worst night screaming we've had with ds has been with ear infections. He gets them usually when he's teething, and only causes upset during the night or occassionally a nap during the day. Dairy products can sometimes cause stomach pains I think too...

Don't think of cancelling your trip yet - hopefully it will pass soon, and if it doesn't - you'll really need a holiday! Most people without a baby will not be tuned in to listening for a crying child and will sleep through the crying... and those with a baby would understand... but explaining to Disney and asking them for a corner room or one next to somewhere empty does sound a great plan :)

All the best to you, I hope you have good news for us soon xxx

thanks. i actually backed off on the food. just went back to giving him oatmeal which he's been having since 3 months (the gastro ped wanted us to give it to him to see if it would help his reflux). at his 6 month appt the doctor suggested we start giving him more solids. but if he's not ready, he's not ready. thanks for the advice.
