I think this would be a decent side hustle... would you pay for it?

While it's not something that I need at this time, some venues already offer it. A lot of churches and convention centers include it, or it's included with photography packages. Our local universities live stream their graduations. The local middle and high schools live stream graduation through the churches they are held at.

While I think that many people are capable of doing this on their own through YouTube or FB live, you might consider finding a niche that's smaller with an interest in this. Possibly funeral homes/cemeteries, elementary school awards ceremonies, small churches who do not advertise livestream events/services, birthday parties (including Quinceañeras and Bav/Bar Mitzvah), or community athletic events. Our town live streams city meetings, but not community events that I know if (ie: Fall festival, youth fishing rodeo, concerts in the park, senior center events, or youth sports).

Just to clarify, I'm not trying to bump off venues/photographers that already do this. Elementary school awards/programs would be a good example. That does open up to potential copyright strikes on YT. Some songs aren't allowed in videos. This would be one of my concerns that would have to be researched before REALLY doing this.

Change of topic, I think a really great idea for a gig job would be a senior helper. Not for medical, but based on next door apps, seniors who still live alone have a lot of issues, such as computer help, shopping help, moving furniture, hanging pictures, driving to appointments, hiring contractors. It would be similar to the dog walker business but seniors instead. I know my mom runs my sister, who lives close to our mom, ragged with requests. Moving to a senior living is super expensive so a less costly option would be welcome by many.

I wouldn't pay for this because it requires absolutely no skill or special equipment and is something almost anyone can do. Anyone can livestream with a good quality phone and strong network signal. If those 2 things aren't present, no matter what you pay someone, they can't do better.

I pay for things I am incapable of doing well myself, in general.

On a side note, we did a pretty deluxe wedding but decided no video person, because they always seen intrusive. Turns out we got a ton of great videos from guests and the other people working at the wedding and they seemed a lot less edited and more natural.

Sorry, I have to disagree with you. Saying you don't need any skill or special equipment is like saying "Uncle Bob can be my wedding photographer, he has an iPhone!"

Yes, 'Uncle Bob' can stream the wedding/event with his phone. Let me ask you this... have YOU been able to hold a phone steady to record an 30 minute long event (much less 60 minutes)? Oh, let's get a tripod (but wait, no special equipment needed). Will your battery last? We can have power bricks (wait, no special equipment needed). Can you hear the subject? We'll get microphones (wait, no special equipment needed).

That is all stuff I already have. I said *I* would not pay for this. The events of importance in our lives have already offered this for free. (Middle and HS graduations, husband's retirement ceremony, funeral church services, etc). I have never seen a place charge for this, so I don't think there is enough of a market to make a business out of it, or else it would already be a thing.

I have no problem with people saying "I don't need this", "it's already provided", etc. It was your "it requires absolutely no skill or special equipment" that I took except to. Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you can do it WELL. ;)

I don't think there's enough of a need for it to be a full time job, but if I had weekends free (guaranteed), I think it would be worth looking into.

Take exception all you want. But the plethora of live streamed videos of decent quality put up on the internet EVERY DAY by literal kids with phones proves that pretty much anyone can do a decent livestream.

DS plays college and semi-pro soccer. I've watched a lot of the games via streaming when I can't attend. While yes, the games are streamed, there are definite quality differences between the entities. And I'm not talking bandwidth issues. I'm referring to the production value.

I like the idea because I would be free to enjoy the event, and not be tied up trying to record it myself.

How fair a $250 price sounds depends on what percentage of the overall budget it is - it's a tiny piece of a wedding budget, but could double the cost of a simple kid's birthday party.

I honestly don't know if I would pay for it (there might be an occasion where it called for it), but I suppose if you're not needing to buy anything extra and you have the time and resources to do this for others, it would make sense to try to make a side gig out of this.

I think it's a good idea in theory, I'm just not sure how many people would actually take advantage of it. Covid presented so many challenges to social events/gatherings which caused people to get creative and figure out how to include people remotely. My son was far away at college and unable to get home in time for my dad's burial. I put him on Facetime and held the phone in front of me so he was able to see and hear the whole ceremony (this was before Covid). One of my cousin's turned 60 during Covid and her brother arranged a Zoom birthday party. Their family sat in front of a camera and people popped in and out to chat with them. I could see the entire family in the frame and they had a huge screen where they could see all of the "guests." We all provided our own drinks and hung out for an hour or so. We also had friends who put on an entire Zoom memorial service for their mom. They had slides, music, some prerecorded messages and others speaking live. We all had the opportunity to be "called on" to add our own comments.

My point is that I think people have learned how to handle these things on their own. It's not usually too difficult to think of someone you know who is tech savvy enough to set up a live stream or Zoom event without hiring anyone from the outside.

Sounds like an innovative idea. One of my coworkers got married on a cruise ship and the ship had live cams in the chapel so we all watched while we were at work. It was fun.

I would absolutely pay for the convenience of it and not having to worry about doing it myself if it were something that I wanted to share with others. I think it’s a great idea.

My only hesitation right now is that I’m not sure I have anything on the horizon that I would need to have streamed, so not sure that I am a good person to respond.

The main question I would have in purchasing the service is about the camera work. Say it’s a school play. Would you just set the camera up and turn it on and walk away with it covering the whole stage or will it be manned in the sense that it will zoom in on the speaker.

Personally, I’d be willing to pay more to have it be more real and less like a video from the rafters, if that makes sense.

The thought would be to have an actual camera operator, someone who's responsibility is the stream (and the audience watching).

That is a great entrepreneurial idea, and could be a hit with the right audience. I personally wouldn't pay for it because we do not do social media (except for the DIS) but we are a rarity. Most people would be all over having a livestream.
