Article in the local paper tonight about a lady who had served over 40 years as a library trustee and was stepping down. Nice article, until it said that she declined to give her age. Then the next sentence was that the voting list had her birthyear as 1924. What in the world did the reporter think he would gain by revealing that info? It had no relavance to the story. He obviously had to do some research to find the info, but it seems mean spirited to include it.

Do you think he went too far?

Obviously her right to privacy didn't conflict with his arrogance.

That was crappy. It's not like he was writing a hard-hitting news story with some prominent political figure, where the age was relevant to the story. Sounds like he was just being pissy.

I think it's nice when I hear about people working and volunteering into their 80's and 90's. Maybe the reporter wanted to show that just because people getting old it doesn't mean you need to slow down. Who knows, maybe she refused with a wink and a smile of see if you can guess.

I personally think a person age should be respected. If she for whatever reason choose not to release it, let it go. I think perhaps it was a slow news day.

It is ashame that the writer didn't respect her enough to grant her request.

It really wasn't all that relevent to the story, so he should have respected her wishes.
