I think my dog is dying . .EDITED: The medicine is working!

That's great news!! I'm glad she is feeling better and acting more "normal".

thank you all. It was the doggy prayers that did it.

Don't know what I would've done without you all. Normally I research things on the computer - but I just couldn't think of the correct way to research what to do when a loved pet acts like it is on its last days!

I learned so much here!

I had to take my doggie to the vet a month ago. She pooped out a huge blood clot when I took her to the doggie park, and it really freaked me out. So not only did I have to back pay from the last visit 80$, it still cost well over 250$ for the visit.
And the end result was she was getting stressed out and it might've caused her to hemorrage. We had been living in our car for the past week, and staying with friends, so it took a toll on her having to be in the car a whole lot.
Well since sometime mid last year I've notice a growth on the inside of her hind leg. And I mentioned it to the vet, but he never did anything about it, just said yeah, I'd be a bit concerned about it.
I spent all that money for nothing, stuck her on a rice diet, and gave her a week worth of antibiotics. BTW, she will eat brown rice, but looks at me if I'm nuts if I try to give her white rice, and it's ok for them, but a bit more expensive.

Her tummy still hasn't settled down, and her poo is still soft and mushy, but I think it's because she's stealing the other dog's rawhids, and our roomies are giving her too many milk bone treats. She hardly gets treats, maybe one or two when we buy a bag of food, but that's it. But I definatly don't have 45$ to take her back for another visit, and the astronomical prices of testing to find out what it is. I feel bad for her, and it's gotten slowly bigger. But it hasn't really affected her much, she still eats, still has energy, and it doesn't bother her if I poke at it.

I definatly understand that line of money and vets... you have so little, and they want soo much of it.

My dog has so much more pep in her step!

After a few doses of antibiotic and a cortisone shot, our lab seems to be doing much, much better. She is moving on and off the couch easier and is also eating! She isn't hanging her head as low as she was and I'm also not noticing as much drool. The drool was coming from the side of her mouth that has the tumor/lump. The vet said the excessive drooling could be due to a blocked salvia gland.

I'm glad I took her to the vet. It did cost a little over 100.00, but was well worth that. I don't know what my breaking point would've been had I needed more test run on her. And I'm so glad that something as simple as antibiotic gave her more energy and appears to make her feel so much better.

Thanks to all of you for sharing your stories of sick and loved pets. I really felt a little uneducated about this. I'm glad I asked here!

Have a good weekend - and if you're from the deep south, then "Happy Mardi Gras"!

Kim

Yeah! This is really good news. I am glad the antibotics are working. :)

Dang sorry to hear about your dog. also hope you are not living in car still.

hope everything for you gets better.

Worrying about Brownie has made me think of your pup again. Is he back to normal now? Just wondering :flower3:

If it's not my half grown kids I worry about, then it's the 4-legged ones!

The vet had given her a round of antibiotics and cortisone shot. I thought it was the antibiotics making her better, but we think it was only temporary from the shot. Before she had even finished the antibiotics, she was back to not eating, very weak, and lethargic. The vet suspects that it wasn't something cureable by the antibiotics and is probably cancer. He said he could give me some tables that had the same meds that the cortisone shot had - but it would only be a temporary fix.

I'm afraid that we've going to have to put her to sleep.

She hasn't eaten in 3-4 days. She will drink her water. I thought maybe with the growth in her jawline/neck area it was too difficult to eat - but we've offered her gravy over rice and other things she could lick and she just turns her head - won't even smell of it!

Thanks for asking.

Oh no! I'm praying your sweet pup "turns a corner" and gets better.

I'm just so sorry, I was hoping to hear he was back to himself now. Many hugs for you, your family, and your pup.

This is very sad news, and I'm sorry for your family. Please take comfort in the fact you and the vet tried to fix her, and that's all you can do. IIRC you said she was 13? That's a long time for a large dog. You must have taken very good care of her all her life - not to mention - provided her with lots of love. A lot of dogs aren't that lucky.

I'm still keeping you in my prayers. It's not over yet!

Thanks.

I do feel good that I took her to the vet and am at least informed. I read where dogs can go without food for very long periods of time - like weeks. I just don't feel like she'll bounce back.

She gave such unconditional love. She was a duck hunting dog in her youth and was well trained. As she aged, DH finally let us love her and invite her into the home. I'm glad we did that. She was better trained than some of our little house dogs we've had!

I am sorry to hear this. I had 13 wonderful years with my yellow lab. Please give brownie a huge hug for me.

Kim, I just wanted you to know I'm still thinking of you and your pup, you're not alone.
