we sailed in dec 2000 in a cat 3. my dh did not like cruising--there was a good deal of motion on the ship, and he said his idea of a vacation doesnt include taking medication so you can feel ok, but sleepy. we are booked in a cat 2 (!) for oct. if the seas were rough in dec, i can only imagine how it will be in oct. most people seem to agree that the first night (at least) is usually somewhat rough. maybe a suite at animal kingdom is the way to go??

Hi Jayne, as a person who gets easily motion sick (and yes I have had my bouts on board) I understand your dh's pain. In fact, we just got off the wonder on Sun. You didn't say how long of a trip you were taking,I'm not sure that matters or not. You also didn't mention whether he had tried any medicines, ginger or the very stylish (lol) bracelets. I made the mistake of only taking 1 dramamine (less drowsey formula) instead of the maximum dosage of 2 because I thought it would make me sleepy as well. The first night I took 1, but the last night I decided to take 2. We had storms both of these nights. I really didn't feel sleepy, and I weigh about 110 lbs. Of course, everyone reacts different to meds. Also, I took the dosage later in the day (around 4:00pm), so that if I did feel sleepy, it was toward the evening and nightime. If he hasn't previously tried the meds. he might just give it a try at home first to see how he reacts.

These are just some thoughts to help you get him on the cruise. I hope he decides to go. Even though I was pretty sick the first night, I'm ready to make my reservation again!

Good luck, Lorie

And don't forget, some people say they feel less motion at certain points on the ship. For example, lower deck, midship. Not sure where your CAT3 was.

Have your DH try Bonine at home instead of Dramamine. It's non-drowsy. I have a friend who gets motion sickness at the thought of being motion sick....cars, planes, rides, ......doesn't matter.
She will be cruising with us for the wedding and was really worried, so she took Bonine before an airline flight, and it worked. Then, we went to Disneyland, she took Bonine....and rode California Screamin' four times in a row!! She was so excited, as she'd never been able to do roller coasters. So, please, even though AK sounds great, have him try the Bonine and the cruise one more time. If he still doesn't like it, then at least you've tried (and experienced the "wonder & magic") one last time. Good luck!

Wrist bands are also helpful. I use both bonine and the wrist bands. They do work.
