I think I went a little overboard for Easter.

Dh and I don't do Easter gifts/baskets for each other. We did when we were dating but now we decided to put that money towards vacation stuff. :) I'll never forget our first Easter dating, though. He got me a giant stuffed bunny and a balloon. I love balloons!!

The Easter bunny brought me a basket every year till I was married, then DH and I got one to share from the bunny when we went to my mom's for a couple years. I always bring something for my mom for Easter (and Valentine's too, since my dad passed away).

Not quite the same problem. But my oldest DD just turned 18 and my DH suggested that we not do a basket for her this year. I personally couldn't have her not get a basket yet her younger sister get one. She is still in HS.

Anyway, I usually have their "baskets" be a tote bag or something like that. And inside I put brushes, misc. makeup, tank top, nail clippers, etc. with a chocolate bunny and a little other chocolate.

So, maybe some people think I would be going overboard for DD18.

Maggie

Silly DH.. why on earth would you stop buying your kids no matter the age presents ; ).

I over do it too and I just don't care lol!!

Only candy I buy is a chocolate bunny for DS7 ( gets alot at school) and I usually spend prob over 100.00 .. new summer clothes, flops, swimsuit, video game , outdoor toys and new books.
My oldest is 21 and I will buy him candy, and usually a starbucks gift card and video game or two.

I don't buy all year long, so I tend to over due the holidays.

a movie and a new pair of pj pants (bunny always brings jammies according to DH).

Growing up bunny always bought me undies lol, I am 36 and there are always a new pair in my basket at my mom's house waiting for me. :rotfl:

I'm pretty good about not overdoing it for holidays (IMHO). DD has an aunt who goes ALL out, and we simply wouldn't have the space for all her stuff if I were a buyer like her aunt!

I just wanted to throw this out there, OP. As they get older, you set a precedent. 3 or 4 years ago, for some reason *Santa* went gaga CRAZY over Christmas, just over the top for DD!!! Now since Santa is still coming to our house, *he's* had a hard time making as much of a show as he did that one year when *he* was really in the mood!

So just make sure if you do it big as he starts to get older, that you'll want to continue with it till the Bunny doesn't come anymore -- otherwise "Why didn't the Bunny get me as much this year?" ;)

I keep trying to be good but usually go a bit overboard for my 2 kids.

This year DD is getting a DS video game, 2 small stuff animals (thumper and his girlfriend which were BOGO, LOL), a pink shade of nail polish and candy.

DS is getting a video game and an Itunes gift card and candy.

Plus I hide plastic eggs around the house (usually around 40) with candy and 20 of them have 1.00 bills in them.

One of these years, I'll stop hiding the plastic eggs. But I think they'll always be getting an Easter basket from the Easter Bunny no matter what my DH thinks. LOL

This thread cracks me up. I just found out recently that people give "gifts" for easter. We always had a small easter basket with some easter candy, sometimes a coloring book or a tiny stuffed bunny or something. Nothing big. I think the biggest thing we ever got was like a book when we got older. But we were still thrilled. I loved easter. The easter bunny liked really clean bedrooms at our house, I wonder if he still has such high cleanliness standards?

I always go overboard for my DD almost 11 and my only and the only grandchild on both sides but I can justify it because I just push the rest off as bday presents since her bday is April 12th. :thumbsup2 So she will get a basket as long as I am around cuz I still get one from my Mom! :woohoo: PS I am an only too!

I totally agree with this. It was easy to go overboard when my kids were 7 and under. Now that my boys are 11, 9, and 9, and still believe that the Easter bunny brings the basket, I wish I had never done anything other than candy in their baskets. It all started out because my oldest DS didn't eat candy when he was little so I bought toys. Each year he has gotten more and more of a sweet tooth, so in addition to small gifts, I buy candy now. Gifts and candy multiplied by four kids really adds up. It also doesn't help that now that they are older small gifts don't really cut it. I do try to buy things I would have to buy for summer anyway like new bathing suits, batting gloves, goggles... to help fill the basket, but they do want video games in there too.

In our house I see the gifts more as a celebration of Spring so the Easter bunny brings things for outdoors. The kids know he never brings video games.

Easter Bunny, Santa and The Tooth Fairy all like a clean bedroom in our house! :thumbsup2 DD10 and DD8 share a room and DD8 is a slob and DD10 is a neat freak (poor kid.) DD10 loves these few times of year because her sister actually helps her clean up!

We don't do gifts really either. Stickers, new colored pencils, chalk, that sort of thing. DD15 is hard, she hates makeup and that is what I would have wanted at her age. She likes to draw so new pencils and a drawing pad maybe, haven't got her anything. And always some candy (for her she is a gum lover and I hit a clearance so that is covered!) I hide eggs with coins inside but this year I went a little crazy and ordered a lot of pins for trading for our trip in November. In the long run I believe it will save them money. I also got them each a lanyard for pins at Michael's for $1. I am actually really looking forward to this. I can see them trading on Easter with each other. However I am doing this later in the day, seperate from what the bunny does. Even though one doesn't believe and the next I am not sure about, I am not setting a presidence like that for next year.

DD10 and DD have friends who get as many gifts at Easter as at Christmas and they have asked about it a little (why we don't) and I just said that we are very blessed at Christmas so all we need at Easter are little treats. They seemed OK with that. They have friends (they are also sisters) who open gifts for every holiday so I think my girls know mom and dad help but we don't really say anything about it.

Easter is like a mini Christmas here for dd. She gets about $200 worth of loot. So far she is getting: webkinz signature bunny, a webkinz zumwhere, Ponyo DVD with plush, a new scooter, candy, crayons, How to train your Dragon Eggs from Walmart. Plus bookfair is at her school next week so I'm sure she'll get a few new books.

I go overboard a bit for holidays as well. I did the Build-a-Bear deal for Alvin & Brittany both for $35 (sound was extra). They gave me a basket & grass for each box, plus they came with their outfit so I came out good on that. I also got them each a zhu zhu pet - asked for at Xmas but just now seeing in stores. DD gets the Alice in Wonderland Wii game and I'll be getting ds Alvin & the Chipmunks the Squekqel (sp?) dvd next week. For candy they each got a reeces egg & tootsie pop bundle. Total spent will be @ $55-60 per kid.

My mama got them each a big Nerf supersoaker water gun plus the big ears chocolate bunny and lots more candy. She also hides dollars & candy in eggs outside.

I now have 3 teenagers (oldest ds almost 18, dd is 15 and youngest ds just turned 13)

They will have Easter baskets (ones we already have). I'l buy a bag of jelly beans, and another misc. bag or two of candy and divide among the baskets.

I got mini iPod speakers at the Dollar Store (one for each). DD will also get some art deco nail polish (the kind used to make decorations on your nail polish, like flowers and designs) that I got at the Dollar Store. Youngest ds will get the Jimmy Neutron movie I found at Big Lots for $3. Don't have something for oldest ds yet. Then they will each get a $10 GC: dd gets Starbucks, ds's get 7-11.

Not alot, but more than enough!

Julia

My youngest is getting tickets to the Justin Bieber concert at Summerfest. My oldest daughter is getting a ton of Borders gift cards. It seems to get much more expensive as they get older. I can't get away with sidewalk chalk or bubbles anymore.

Also, they don't eat candy either.....so, I need suggestions for Tween and Teen girls I guess!

How about a bathingsuit, towel & flip flops, maybe a cover up - getting ready for summer? Itunes gift cards seem to go over with that age too

My DD is 13, 14 in June and I keep seeing little things that I want to pick up for her so I've been putting them away for her birthday. Lacing string (I picked up a package of this at Kerr Drug for $1, they are plastic laces that you lace together in different patterns, it keeps her hands busy), Bath & Body Works stuff, Littlest Pet Shop (she collects them), Webkinz, itunes and McDonalds GCs, books (right now she wants a series by Anthony Horowitz), and I'm looking for a necklace she wants that has the little bottle from Alice in Wonderland that says "drink me" on it, one of her friends has one from Claires, but I don't know where a Claires is around here. And I've also ordered Pokemon Heart Gold for ds. I hope that helps.

I love the idea of putting pins in the Easter eggs!!
I was pretty good this year about not going crazy. Candy, coloring books, a nintendo DS game for $5 and a travel pillow. I am really trying to break my children of the "gimme's" and the "I want's". :)

I am 25 and still get an Easter Basket from my Mom and I give her one as well. We limit it to $25 and get practival things. She saw a cute raincoat she wanted from Old Navy that is only $20 so I will get her that plus a chocolate bunny.

One thing I forgot to say that I got my girls was colored socks. The trend here is to wear mismatched socks (I have to say, I don't hate this trend, I don't have to match socks for them! :thumbsup2 ) I got 5 packes of very colorful ones for $5 at Walmart. They needed socks anyway so this way it feels like something special and takes up room in the basket.
