Hi everyone,
After posting and reading many threads, I have taken some of the "disers" advice and gone with the Canon S1 SI digital camera, would love to hear any opinions or advice on this camera....Went to wolf camera and after playing with it forever...I have absolutely fallen in love with it and I am on my way out this evening to buy it, however, I would first like to hear what everyone has to say about this camera for some last minute thinking...
Thanks guys,
Kristy

I'd suggest a stop by a web site that does excellent reviews of all digital cameras. Steve's Digicams. Just go to Google and do a search on Steves Digicams and then go to his link on the Canon S1 and S2 cameras. Excellent reviews and very in depth. Sorry I can't post the link yet....

I have a Canon Powershot A85, and absolutely LOVE it! So simple to use. I love my Canon digital! :flower:

Did you get your camera yet?
I just wanted to mention a few things. Make sure you see this actual camera in person before you purchase it. (didn't know if you were planning on buying it online)

I had done ALOT of research on digital camera before I purchased my Kodak 7590.
I think you will be VERY happy about the 10x optical zoom. Everyone that I talked to always says they wish they had more zoom ontheir camera. However, are you going to be satisfied with the weight and bulkiness of the camera? My Kodak is pretty large, (compared to the fugi fine pix, but not as large as the cannon digital rebel). This is the first year I have had it and am wondering how it is going to work for me at the parks this year. I have yet to find a case for it. I want one that I can sling across my shoulders, but so far the only ones it fits it looks like a small cooler :rotfl: And I don't want to be carrying that around the parks! I realize that to have such a large zoom, I have to sacrafice the size. I hope I made the right choice!
Overall, I think you made a great choice!

We love our Canon. I think you'll be very happy with the quality. I agree with the poster who said to be sure to see the actual model you're interested in in person, though. We ended up buying a different camera than we had originally intended to, when we were shopping, because there were 2 with very similar capabilities but one was smaller -- and I'm so glad we got the smaller one. It fits easily in my pocket, so it's easy to carry around on all kinds of outings.

One thing I just recently found out about -- if you're a Sam's Club member, you can use their photo developing for your digital prints, and it's super cheap and easy. I've found it to be cheaper and higher quality than printing at home.

I'm a huge fan of digicams -- I love being able to keep snapping pic after pic and then only printing the ones that turn out well. I'm far more likely now to get those elusive PERFECT pics :)

That is a very nice camera. We just bought a new Canon digital on Sunday and the S2 IS was one of the 3 we were choosing from. We bought the PowerShot Pro1. The third camera was the PowerShot G6 (we currently have the G2 and LOVE it). DH spent hours going over the specs and talking to Canon.

The Pro1 fit our specific needs the best but I think that the Canon line is excellent. We also have a Canon camcorder.

We found a camera bag at Best Buy that has a large inside pocket and a padded outside pocket. The camcorder fits inside and the digital camera outside. DH tells me the new camera will fit as well. Thankfully, since he loves to take tons of pictures and video, he doesn't mind carrying the bag around (he straps it across himself). Then I don't have to! :teeth:

BTW, I saved over $200.00 with coupons at Dell. I don't know why, but whenever we are buying a digital camera, Dell always comes in at the best price. And believe me, I shop around. I could not have gotten that camera any cheaper anywhere!

Ohhh. I've been looking at the S2. Be sure to tell us how you like the S1! I'm particularly interested in if you think it's bulky or not. Let us know!

Lynn :cool1:

It's very nice. The *only* thing I prefer about my Canon A95 is the smaller size and lighter weight. It fits easily into my fanny pack, and the SI would not. Of course, I want it anyway... why not have a travel camera and a home camera? ;)

The S1 is a great camera, I just bought the S2. There were some pretty nice improvements made on the S2, but if you are trying to spend as little as possible, the S1 is a great choice as an all around camera.

Great links in here. I'm glad you guys mentioned size. I hate to carry things in the parks, so I want the tiniest camera--but I want as much zoom as I can get! Does anyone have a recommendation for that? LOL

I think you may be out of luck. Typically, your tiny digicams only have a 3x zoom. The bigger zoom cameras are usually a little bigger. The Panasonic FZ5 may be the smallest camera with 12x zoom and image stabilization (a must for big zoom cameras, IMO).
