I think I had 24hr food poising.

I had no idea people emailed CDC when they get sick after eating something. Unless my whole family goes down with sickenss, I assume it is a virus or eating something that doesn't agree with me.

Hope you are feeling better though.

I think that's what 99.9% of people do....

This thread made me smile. Not that the OP or anyone else got sick, but our personal irony related to it is too funny. After our 1st visit to HBD, we all got really sick & swore we'd never eat there again. We didn't for many years. Last month we finally decided to give it another try, & I think it was probably the best meal we've ever had at WDW. Naturally, I had the salmon. Op, sorry you guys got sick after such a great meal. It stinks when that happens. :sad2:

Food-borne illnesses don't always begin right away. I had botulism about 14 years ago, I contracted it from a Deviled Egg (Mayonaise was bad, or the egg itself) as best we can track back. I went to a party on a Fri. night and did not actually begin to show signs until about 12 hours later. The bacteria had gotten into my intestines. That was the sickest I have ever been. It took me about 3 weeks to fully recover from it, I had to take several rounds of antibiotics since botulism is caused by a bacteria, and my body needed that to fight it. Every time I thought I was beginning to feel better, I'd have 2 bad days, and have to slow down again. If you get ill right after eating, it may be just that your body doesn't agree with the food or it still could be a virus (there are plenty of those roaming around). I hope it wasn't food poisoning but I am glad you are feeling better now.

Food poisoning can happen anywhere. My husband got food posioning 2 years ago from chicken he ate on our flight home from France. This was another case where the person is asymptomatic for 48-72 hours. The end result was 4 days in the hospital and lab results that traced it back to food we had on the plane. It can happen anywhere.

I don't think that anyone is saying that Food Poisoning can't happen anywhere. I just think that they naysayers are cautioning that LOTS of things can happen to make a person sick.

Food Poisoning can be very serious and certainly in cases where hospitalization is involved - it bears serious investigation. Lab tests are run and food poisoning is scientifically proven. Th CDC in turn attempts to trace it back to the source.

Unfortunately stomach bugs, slight bouts of food poisoning, food just not settling well, and other things that pass in just a day or so, happen. They happen to us at home and with really bad luck they happen on vacation too. Unless you go to a Doctor - it's impossible to prove what caused you to be sick. Reporting it doesn't hurt. The CDC can enter the info in their database and see if there is a pattern and take appropriate action.

DH got a 24 hour something after eating at Outback in Orlando. He's the only one who got sick, so we suspect it's something he ate that we didn't. For the life of us though we can't figure out what. (You'd think that one of the other six of us would have gotten it) We didn't report it and just wrote it off to bad luck. Maybe we did a disservice, but being that it quickly passed and he didn't require any treatment - we figured no harm no foul. (Though I doubt that we eat at the Outback in Orlando next time we go to Disney  )

I guess what I am trying to say in my ramblings is, If you feel the need to report it to CDC - then you should. If you feel the need to do nothing - that's fine too. If you want to prove food poisoning - then you are better off at a Dr's office. Comparing notes here isn't wrong, it can be good, but mostly we're just venting here rather than working towards a solution of any potential issue at a Disney restaurant.

Just my .02 - with the economy the way it is today it's probably worth less than .01 :goodvibes

Stomach viruses/flus are common on ships due to so many people in such close quarters.

The last cruise we went on there were so many people sick with the stomach flu they had sick bags lining the hallways & the doctor added extra hours.....
I was one of them & it was horrible.

You probably had the Norovirus.:guilty:
Norovirus:
90% of gastroenteritis around the world from non-bacterial sources.
And responsible for 50% of food borne out breaks in the US.
Transmitted by fecal content. People don't wash there hands after going to the restroom.
Cruise ships are notorious for this. Years ago I took care of quite a few passengers at the hospital I worked at. They were really sick.
