Hi all,

So as you can see from my title I'm feeling a bit like the little train that could and nervous about my upcoming trip on 10/27. I have stage 3c ovarian cancer and have been twice now since my dx however this time I started a trial drug on 9/13 that has knocked the wind outta me!! I have had every side effect practically on the list and most have been quite debilitating. I did not plan on using a scooter and am bringing my dd and a friend who is using a scooter due to mobility issues so I don't want to entertain the thought and have both of us using them. I am just in need a some comfort and support telling me I can do this!! I know you don't know me and your not doctors but the power of strength and prayers goes a long way so please fellow disers say a prayer I can make it through this trip? Thank you so much :worship:

I can definitely send some prayers your way. As for the rest, don't discount the scooter if you need it. Even if you start out without one, you can always change your mind part way through the trip. I hope you have a wonderful trip!

I agree with the other poster. I think you can make it - but you may need some help. :goodvibes
Keep the ECV in the back of your mind to use if you need it or even if you don't absolutely don't need it, but it would make your trip better.

It might help to think of it not as something you want to avoid at all costs, but as a FREEDOM machine.
It can give you the freedom to:
1) save your energy for the fun things - like attractions - instead of using all your energy just to get around.

2) enjoy your day instead of just enduring it.

3) keep up with your friend who will be using an ECV.

Think of your energy as a bank account. Each morning, you get a small deposit of energy from your sleep the night before.
Right now, because of your cancer, your treatment and side effects, you have started with a pretty depleted energy account.
You might have enough to get you thru a 'normal' day, but all the activity/walking, etc in a day at WDW is going to make you spend more energy to get thru the day than normal. If you use too much energy during the day, you might not 'earn' enough during the night and will start out the next morning 'overdrawn'.
Not a good way to be on vacation.

WDW is huge so if you are going to get to tired walking around then get the scooter. I know what it is like not to want to have to be dependent on a scooter to get around. My next trip I will be using one for the first time, but without it I couldn't go. If you don't use one then don't push yourself to hard, be sure to stop and smell the roses

I think that you can do it also but there is a lot of walking at WDW and day after day it can really add up. Just know that an ECV is available should you need it and I am sure that two of you with ECV's is just as doable as one ECV. Perhaps you might just consider it for the larger parks like Epcot. Only you know how you feel and I would say to just take it day by day and then decide if you want to reserve some of your energy. Maybe have an afternoon rest every day. Sometimes, I feel it is a lot of walking to exit a park and then come back later so I try to have a rest in the park. A late TS lunch, or just sit and watch some of the street entertainment. Maybe a long ride such as Universe of Energy or Finding Nemo. Have a wonderful trip!:)

Thanks everyone for the support! I am going to go with my body tells me at the time. I have to get a shot again this upcoming Friday and am praying that I don't have any side effects like last time. I just love to do the walking and burn the calories I mean hey where can you vacation, eat anything you want and not gain weight right :rotfl:
