We just got back from Six Flags in Arlington Texas and it is only 90
degrees and 55% humidity, and I am exhausted and extremely hot. How will I survive at Disney in JULY.

what were we thinking!!???:earseek

Help me with any advice.
We will drink lots of water, but what else to do:

I'm also very nervous about our first Summer trip at the end of August after reading posts here and reactions of people when I tell them we're going to WDW in August!

So I've been reading all the posts on the summer months and summer strategies.

Here's what I've learned (not first-hand, though):

I heard about a Misty Mate here and so I bought one on Ebay for $18 and it just came in the mail today!!! It's pump operated (no batteries) and gives you a fine mist when you are hot!

I also bought a Lime Green fan/mist at Linens and Things for $7.99; this one does take batteries.

I read that you should start early and leave when the parks get hot and go swimming or take a nap. Maybe have a late lunch before we leave the park. Then head back to a park in the evening.

I read that you should wear light clothes, not dark clothes.

I read that I should bring hats for my DDs.

Drink a lot even when you are not that thirsty.

Take breaks in the shops frequently throughout the day.

Rest when you need to. (Duh! But you'd be surprised how many people start to feel light headed and decide to just "walk it off")

Plan most of your activities for early in the morning and late at night and spend afternoons doing "slow" rides or shows. Or maybe go back to the hotel for a nap.

Buy a portable fan or squeeze breeze.

Just a few that have worked for me! (I usually go in August!)

The tag on the misty mates says it will lower the temp by 25 degrees! We'll know for sure this July. They are only 10.00 at walmart. We also bought the kids their own little fans from the disney store for 5$ each. :) We'll be right there sweating with you! Oh, & don't forget deodorant! (joking!!! :hyper: )

I have been in July 2 years in a row. Yes, get a mister! Get a water bottle strap and always have your water with you. Our strategy has always been to go early in the morning, then when the rain starts to come, go back to the hotel, shower (you will be stinky by this time!), and take a nap. When you wake up, the rain will be over and you will be refreshed. And you will also be good to go later in the evening when the weather is cooler since you took a nap.

Also, don't forget that caffeine and alcohol are dehydrating, so take it easy on those two, and load up on the water!

The humidity at this time of year does crazy things to your hair too! You can buy inexpensive leave-in conditioners at the drugstore that really help with the frizz.

We will be right there with you. Remember the magic of DW, keep telling yourself that no one sweats in the heat and humidity. ::MickeyMo

Just back from Magic Kingdom today and it was hot. Here is a suggestion. Go to frontier land and Tom Sawyer Island early as those areas were the hottest. Today a lady passed out from the heat while standing in line in front of us at splash mountain.

232271 are you fron the Dallas Area? WE are to. How long are you staying at Disney. We are also going in July. Arriving on 7/4. We usually try to stay a week so we are not rushed. We try to go early to the parks and go back to our hotel to swim about 2. We return to the parks about 6 as it gets cooler in the evening. I have also been there for a week in late June where it rained all day everyday. Kept it cooler and the park uncrowded. If you see rain take advantage. Don a poncho and go on to the park. Most important drink plentry of water and rest when you need to. To cool off Go see Micky's Phillharmagic at the Magic Kingdom or visit one of the paviliions at Epcot, The Great Movie ride or the Muppets 3D at MGM and at Animal Kingdom the Legend of the Lion King Show all these are indoors and allow you time to cool off. You can PM me if you need more info. This summer is trip #17 for me. I'll help all I can.

When I went in July last year, I:

Always went back to the room for a nap or swim. The heat just wipes you out, adn your body needs that break to cool off and rest. Start early, head back mid afternoon, freshen up (you'll need that shower!), and go back.

Drink lots of water. We carried one cold, one frozen.

Scope out the AC places. I went from AC place to AC place =) Choose indoor eateries to get a break.

Carry a slightly damp washcloth in a snack size ziplock. You can wipe yourselves down when you're drenched in a line and miserable. We used it often, especially on our foreheads.

HAVE FUN!

eeeek!!!!!!!! I went to Disney in July about 4 years ago. On line for rides they have fans with water in them. I also brough one of of those squirting fans too. It is very hot.

This will be our first July trip, so I'm a little anxious about the heat too. We were just there 2 weeks ago, it was hot, and our biggest tip is to take a break. We always go back to the hotel and cool off in the pool or in our room. It is much cooler after about 5pm.
We also get those battery operated misting fans. We let our kids take breaks and play in the fountains too. There are always alot of kids cooling off in there.

ohh, now I'm starting to get nervous! We have never gone in July, but after reading this thread, I'm starting to think that maybe I have gone  to plan a trip for then! :sunny:

Go early, drink lots of water and go back to the resort for a break in the hotttest part of the afternoon 1-5 pm. The evenings are much better and what's really great is that they are super magical!
Have a great trip.

It will still be a great trip. We are going in July this year for 4th also. Wife's idea ??? I like June but she could not get off then this year. Last year we were there the last week in June a 10 day trip we went at it non-stop. It was hell but we enjoyed every minute. We are from south louisiana so we are use to the heat and humidity. To me the humidity is not as bad in Orlando as it is here. Yes we sweat like hell but we keep on ticking !!!

Use the info in these treads as a guide and remeber to pace your self when the operturnity presents itself to lean against something do so, ditto for sitting down. Most shops are AC cut through them slow down for a minute enjoy the AC. Drink alot of water, THIS IS A RULE NOT SUGGESTION.

The most important thing to remember is take care of your feet !!! Without them you are dead in the water. Get Mole Skin carry it in your bag. If you start to get a hot spot or a you get a blister slap a piece of Mole Skin on it and keep going.

Two Words.. MISTY MATE You will not regret the purchase... TRUST ME!! The squeeze breeze's are okay.. but NOTHING beats the misty mate!! Really! You fill it up with ice and some water at your hotel before you leave.. and then periodically ask for more ice from the counter service places... use the water fountains to fill it up.. and you have your own portable air conditioner!! REALLY!! what a life saver it is.... Enjoy!!!

Just ordered a misty mate from ebay, suppose I should have asked this before but are they refillable indefinately or does the pump thing wear out?

As someone said earlier, don't forget your feet and the bottom of your legs. The sun is reflected off the ground in many places plus sometimes while you are waiting in line your head is covered but your legs are not.

Apply sunscreen to every exposed place and I suggest socks and sneakers. Sometimes it is so humid that your foot will rub inside even the most comfortable sandles. Socks absorb the moisture.

We've always gone in the summer. Just be wise on how you do things. If the line is too long, check back later, most times it will be shorter.

Avoid daytime parades, even if you are in the shade. The more the people line up, the less air you will have and the warmer it will be.

Drink plenty of water and stop inside every air conditioned shop for even 3 mins. It will cool your body down.

And don't forget the sunscreen, sunglasses and a hat even on cloudy days. Sometimes you burn more on these days. Plus, the weather can change quickly so you want to be prepared and not have to buy or go back to the room for supplies.

Don't worry. If my DD and I can go in July (we do not feel well in the heat) then anyone could. Just be prepared.

Enjoy!

I love going in July. The heat makes me aprreciate the pool and my resort room even more.:sunny: I never stay a full day at any park. You really need a break in the afternoon. The parks are open later so you have the luxury of taking a nice mid-day break.

just to give you a visual check out this website - but they sell them w/WDW motif at DTD and Walmart has them in the camping/hunting sections of stores- also sporting stores usually sell them and the really do help in the heat.

Also we go 2x/yr to WDW one time in the heat of summer and I know I go against the crowd when I say this but we never head to the parks until 4pm ish. We sleep in hit the pool have lunch at the resort and maybe even a nap then we head out.

We used to get up early hit the park then around 1 or 2pm head back to the resort hit the pol rest then go back to the park around 5 or 6pm - frankly all that running around - we didn't enjoy the evenings at the park - then we decided we love the parks more in the late afternoon and evenings - we love fireworks and just the the look of the parks when they are lighted up so thats why we go later in the day. And when we come home from vacation we actually feel like we had a vacation,

Sorry for the babbling!
