I think everyone should sell at least one contract!

We all consider our DVC contracts to be a financial asset, but until I sold several contracts, and added on others I did not really know what was involved or how difficult or easy it really was to access this money.

It was kind of like having a basement full of valuable stuff before ebay!

I have sold stripped VB contacts with high member fees. I have added on extended OKW contracts. I have dealt with the tax implications, which were much easier than I feared. I have learned to buy small contracts.

I would suggest that if you have a contract at a resort that you stay at infrequently, you consider listing it ( I used TTS). In addition to getting a little gas money, you will also get a lot of information and confidence. :thumbsup2

So why do you want us to sell contracts ? I don't get it!

Not to be offensive, but this is really a dumb statement. Why sell just to sell? Why buy just to buy? Terms and conditions change over time depending on broker, needs, market. Timeshare ownership is not a game.......its a financial obligation that costs over time, whether you buy, sell or hold. Just don't get his statement.:confused3

I have considered selling BWV and perhaps buying OKW or SSR or AKV. We have one 200 point contract and 2 children. So we would split into two 100 point contracts and get more time on the contracts making it more attractive to give our kids at some point. We love BWV and being close to Epcot, but we only go there every 3 to 4 years. So it is in the thought process right now.

All that would do is flood the already flooded market and devalue DVC. Not good all around.

Mod Note:

This was duplicated on the DCV Ops boards. The threads have been merged into this thread.

Selling DVC contracts, given what they sell for, is not going to profit you. You will get $ for them, but then again I guess I can sell my home computer and I'd get $ for that too - but I wouldn't profit from it.

"a little gas money" . . . boy, things must be tight for you to sell DVC contracts for "gas money"!

TVWalsh, you wouldn't happen to be a co-owner in a DVC resales agency would you (TTS)? That's the only way I can really see anyone profiting from the sales of DVC.

I've put ~years~ of research and savings into my purchase as I'm sure many other folks have. Selling their DVCs just because it's quick access to $$ (btw - easy is a subjective term) doesn't make sense to those who've bought Disney property with the intent of vacationing at Disney year after year.

Actually, I have been thinking about selling our VWL contract and buying a HHI contract to take it's place. As much as we like going to WDW, we really love HHI and as DVC grows larger and larger, I anticipate it being harder and harder getting 7 month ressies there. We also have an AKV contract that would still make it possible to go to WDW once a year. If we sold VWL and bought a second HHI contract, we'd have enough points there so we could go twice a year and stay in a 1BR each time. We've got several trips lined up though using our VWL points, but after things settle down, I may revisit this idea.

In addition to getting a little gas money, you will also get a lot of information and confidence. :thumbsup2

I don't need gas money, there are other ways to get information and I'm pretty confident as it is. I'll keep my points, thanks. :thumbsup2

I know you are suggesting that people sell a contract at a resort they visit only infrequently, but really, if they are able to use the points at another resort and are happy with the situation, why should they sell, pay the commission and then buy something in order to have a situation very close to what they have now. If the 11 month window is that important, I can see, but to sell for the sake of the "experience" does not sound like a good idea to me at all.

We are not in this situation, we use most of our points at the home resorts with 8-11 month booking, but when we make last minute changes, we have been very happy with what we have been able to get.:goodvibes

Now you did sell VB, yes high maintenance fees. That, I understand. We use our VB points at VB and hope to have more Beach Cottage VB vacations in the future. You did what was best for you, and you're happy with the situation. Good for you!

I, and probably many people here, have many vacations booked and those would be lost if we sold the contracts that were associated with them. That would be a huge downside to just selling for the sake of it.

I understand where he is coming from. We sold one OKW and one BCV contract. Made a nice little sum on both of them. Have another OKW contract out there with a buyer waiting for ROFR. I'll make a nice little sum on that one, too. And my dues have been cut in half. My trips, too, but no loss there. Just not as happy with DVC as I was in the past.

I don't know. Now is probably the beginning of the end of an opportunity in time to sell 2042 contracts at a premium price. I bought BWV @ $65/pt and can currently sell at $85, turn around buy SSR @ $80 (or less) and have 2054 contracts (12 extra years for my kids) and that $5+ differential will pay closing and commission.

And though I researched (procrastinated) for a couple years before buying I have found since that BWV isn't my favorite place to be and find myself using my points at other resorts 80% of the time... SSR points would work just as well.

For me this can make sense. And adding 12 years onto the 34 years I have left is a nice way to capture profit that will otherwise just dissappear without benefit (in my case anyway).

Until now, I've just had this thought kind-of tucked away, but this thread has me thinking seriously and looking at the actual numbers. For that I am appreciative.

Thanks, DisDaydreamer. I think you captured the idea of opening up options which was a part of my message.

:rotfl: We own three 100 pt. contracts at SSR and just added another 100 pt. contract at AKV....NOT SELLING!!!!!
