As someone who has donated a kidney to his wife so she does not have to be on dialysis, please do not use that phrase.
It is illegal to sell any organs for transplant. People who donate do it out of love and expect nothing else in return. If you saw your spouse hooked up to a machine every night for 10 hours just to stay alive you would have a different view on things.
Please be careful of the words you use, they could be hurtful to others.
Hummm, he might have been kidding. Lets face it, even if he wanted to sell his kidney it might be hard to pull off with getting a doctor to take it out and then finding a buyer on the black market.
I agree it isn't funny though. I knew this guy who knew this guy who went to Vegas. He met a girl at the bar and took her back to his room. He must have been drugged or something because he woke up in a bathtub filled with ice and a sign over his head that said don't move and call 9-1-1.
What is this world coming to.
I'm really tired of having to watch every word that comes out of my mouth for fear of "offending" someone (and I know I am not alone). 99% of the time "offending" = someone looking for any excuse to get up on his/her soapbox.![]()

***waiting for the soapboxes to stack a mile high now***
I see nothing wrong with people using phrases in a lighthearted way. Anyone want to get up on a soapbox about me using the word "lighthearted"?These days you literally have to watch every word and every innocent meaning thought you say or write. It's getting so bad that we're not going to be able to utter a word in the not so near future.
We're adults here. We get it when it's mean spirited and when it's not. Everyone has at least a marginal amount of common sense. But being the pc society we live in - and everyone afraid of offending everyone under the sun(who know it thus this is why it's happening so often now) - are reason why this happens way too much.
and this is why the rest of us are left with a headache by rolling our eyes behind our collective screens. yes, it's true.
That is a false story, it has been around for years.
I am fully aware of that Larry Literal. It was a joke. Maybe someone needs a funny bone transplant.

I think this is akin to saying "I'd give my first born", "I'd pay an arm and a leg" and "I'd sell my soul". It's hyperbole and little else
No one truly believes that anyone would "sell a kidney" to stay at the Poly and for anyone to be hurt by that phrase is hard for some folks to understand.
As someone who has withstood more than his share of derogatory slurs, I would suggest that you might be further ahead by trying to see the humor in what was said.
I understand that this is a very personal thing to you, but I think you need to realize it's just that....a personal thing.
I also think you must consider intent when considering whether a phrase is hurtful. There are words that can hurt when used by someone meaning to be hurtful that will mean nothing when said by a friend in a joking way.
We're better off when we all try to be understanding of one another.
I think I'm not alone in saying there are many of us who have loved ones with kidney failure. My mother being one of them, on top of liver and adrenal disease. That being said...
can you say "eggshells"?
