I swear I don't have an accent!

I have THE most obnoxious Long Island accent (and thats LONG ISLAND, no one pronounces it as Lon Giland!) I really can't stand it.

Boston accents were driving me nuts when I went to orientation at school. My boyfriend came back from Bentley and he still says "Bacardi" as "Bacaaadi". The letter "r" is essential to the english language! I'll get used to it.

I've heard Judi (aka Snoopy) has a sexy voice. I've never heard her speak, but I've heard several people comment on her sexy voice.

I have several Boston friends. I sometimes have a hard time understanding them, even after many years. Quite a few years ago, while I was visiting, the accent problem was aggravated by the then 3yo son of one of my friends. That Boston accent with 3 3yo pronunciation led to a crying 3yo when I couldn't figure out what he was saying when he asked me, several times, for a tahnic.

I live in South Jersey and I don't think I have an accent. I think we sound like the people on tv. Does anyone think people in South Jersey have an accent?

I was up in NY this weekend, and it was such a relief to hear a waitress say "youse" instead of "y'all"....

I say y'all. One of my mom's friends says "youse guys" and it took me forever to realize what she was saying. Everytime I see My Cousin Vinny and he says Youts for Youths, it reminds me of y'all and youse.

I know what you mean though. I can't believe it when I hear myself talk. Must be some alien taking over my body or something.

I guess I should read the whole thread before posting. Poor Snoopy had no idea what I said. Actually I was telling her that this is Jenn. For the life of her she couldn't figure out who I was talking about. LOL

Another southern accent chiming in! Sometimes my friend from New England and I really do have a hard time understanding each other on the phone. It's funny though, bc a lot of people from the South say I don't have a strong accent. LOL

I live in Kentucky, and I was working at our sister hotel in Indiana across the river. I answered the phone, and a man said, "You must be from Kentucky." Wondering how on earth he knew that, I said, yes. He laughed and said, "Aha! I knew it from your accent!"

I don't think I have an accent! But, I don't think I sound like myself on tapes, answering machines, etc. either! LOL!
