I still can't believe this happened

Last week my husband took a day off work to have some medical tests done. ( I need a kidney transplant and he is being tested as a possible donor )

Late in the afternoon we decided to go to the mall to get Christmas cards. Once we found some we stopped at a restaurant to have an early dinner. I ordered the soup and salad bar.

On my fourth bite of salad I felt like something had impaled my tongue. I moved the food around in my mouth, but everything seemed normal so I figured it had just been a hard piece of crouton.

Just then the waitress brought my soup, so I moved my salad to one side. All of a sudden my husband gasped and said my tongue was all red. I opened my mouth and blood came gushing out and down the front of my sweater.

I quickly went to the washroom to avoid a scene. I was unable to stop the bleeding. Two waitresses, the asst manager and the manager all join me. They bring me water and ice and wet towels. The mess I am making is incredible. Turns out I had lacerated one of the veins under my tongue.

After about 15 minutes the bleeding slows down enough for me to leave, which is all I wanted to do. But of course husband ( rightly ) insists we go to the ER.

They usually don't stitch up a tongue, but they did trim off the jagged edge. And they took x rays. Gave me penicillin. And told me to go home and wait for whatever cut me to come out the other end. Such a pleasant thought considering what it did going in.

The next day the restaurant's insurance company contacts me and what they want to know is, has this happened to me before.

Even though I was as pleasant as possible throughout the whole ordeal, and never attempted to blame anyone, they went on the defensive right away.

Oh, and they did offer to pay the $24 co-pay I was charged at the hospital.

Oh my goodness!!!

I sure hope that you feel better.

What a difficult position to be in??

No advice just

Oh my, that is horrible! I sure hope you didn't pay for the meal. And I hope that you are all right.

I sure do hope that you are ok, and that nothing is damaged when it works its way out! Bunches and Bunches of hugs!!

Oh my gosh! I wonder what it could have been? If/When you find out what it was, please let us know.

Hope everything turns out fine.

sorry for the double post:o , I'm not able to delete it!!

Thanks for all the kind words.

At the ER they thought it was probably glass because nothing showed up on the x ray.

This restaurant was a national chain, and they said all their salad bar items come pre-packaged from a central location.

I seem to be doing fine, although it will be a while before I eat our again. In fact I am longing to build a log cabin and grow my own food LOL

Oh my gosh. How scary. Take care.

P.S. If you figure out how to grow Chinese food, could you let me know?:p

I'll start working on that right after I get my pizza plants growing :-)

has it come out the other end yet??:teeth:

Sorry, but that bit was sooooooo funny;)

How's it going anyway? Are you managing ok??

Good heavens!!!!!!!!! you poor dear!!!!!!!!!
I hope your feeling better and that you'll heal quickly!!

HOlycow

If it came out the other end Nutsy, it did so without ceremony.

Which is a good thing I suppose.

But on the other hand I would be much happier knowing it had exited. The idea of it lodging en route, so to say, is rather disquieting.

Yikes! I hope everything is ok.

I also hope you match for a kidney very soon. One of my coworkers just had her second kidney transplant a few weeks ago. The last one was in for 17 years, but her diabetes wore it down, so she got a pancreas this time, too, and she is now insulin free. I hope you do as well as she did!

I can SO sympathize with you.
My MIL sent over some greens and beans she made about 3 weeks ago. I warmed it up and served it with our dinner. As I was chewing I came down on something very sharp!
There was a decent size piece of broken glass in my greens and beans! I had a small cut on the inside of my cheek, nothing major, but that is upsetting to pull sharp glass out of your mouth!
My injury wasn't as near severe as yours. I hope you're feeling better soon.
