I started a "Disney" job today!!

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum but I'm so excited I have to tell someone! I started a Disney-related job today- I'm a travel agent at a AAA office! Now I get to talk about Disney all day and get paid for it!

I don't have any travel agent experience but my Disney knowledge must have impressed them. I start training tomorrow and they will teach me everything I need to know. My boss said he might have to send me to WDW for a few days for the Disney college of knowledge!

Today I got to play around on disneytravelagents.com practicing booking packages!

Just had to share w/someone who would understand my excitement!!

CONGRATS! i am a college of disney knolwedge! but when i was working it was by correspondance only! (fax in the test, answer and fax it back) i did get my ears! lol!

I worked at a travel agency in a college, and we mostly did conventions and meetings and what not for the prof's and trips to cuba, dominican republic, and mexico for the students.

the girls in the office knew that *i* wanted any customers looking to travel to WDW, even if on a tight budget. didn't make much on those 'no frills student trips' but boy ooh boy did i love selling them. i only had a very small few in the 3 and a bit years that i worked there. :O(

AAA would be a great place for disney. have lots of fun! the more willing and excited you are about selling disney the more they will come back to you. (and appreciate you for the efforts! of the few trips i had almost all brought me back something, (HUGE mickey sucker, keychain and mug, etc etc) yet anyother trip i planned (around the world for sabbatical profs even) and not even a post card!

people who go to disney are excited, and to have an excited and knolwedgable agent just helps along. enjoy your new job!

No you do not have to have a degree or go to travel school to be a aaa travel agent- they will train you.

Sales experience is probably the most important. I emphasized that my last job was sale oriented- we had to meet goals and our store went from lowest to highest sales in the region.

I used to be a cashier at a AAA office while I was in college, and I really liked the company- nice 9-5 hours, closed on sundays and holidays, great benefits, etc.

Congrats! I've done both the College of Disney Knowledge program as well as the week long training at Disney for the Graduate program last year. It was a blast! If you do go down, make sure you have really really really good walking shoes!!! You'll love working for AAA! I know I enjoy my job there!

I have been a TA for 15 yrs, and I am a Disney Specialist. Our agency is an EarMarked Agency (1 of 5 in Michigan), and I do mostly disney vacations all day long, and I LOVE it. Me and my husband do not have children, and we love to go to Disney, we stay at different resort each time.

Just wondering:

I've always had fantasy of having my own Disney Travel Agency when my kids are much older. I've just always wanted to own my own business and since I love planning Disney Trips for my friends and family, I have always had that thought in the back of my mind. I'm not even a travel agent, but how would someone go about starting something like this. I suppose I couldn't only do Disney stuff but that would be the most fun. I wouldn't expect it to be a huge money maker. Just something extra.
