yet I am. I still cannot quite get my head around the fact that there are so many voters willing to legalize discrimination no matter what the reason. :(

:furious: I know. But as a wise person said recently - the courts will have to sort it all out. Eventually there will be equality but its going to be a while.

Laws had to be passed before the Civil RIghts Movement succeeded..It will happen but there are steps that need to be taken that unfortunately discriminate before equality can be reached.

The bad news is that these measures are still passing. The good news is that these were not the wedge issues and did not help the GOP that much.

bigotry is alive and well and living on the DIS -- a board founded by a gay man. that's what always amazes me, how people can come to Pete's board and post anit-gay opinins.

I try to see the bright side. Interestingly, Virginia passed the ban by 57 to 43%. Doesn't sound great, but it was a closer race than most of the other states with similar ballot proposals. Also, Michigan voters passed a similar law two years ago and passed it 59 to 41%. So Virginians were actually less against gay marriage than Michiganders (and Virginia is more conservative than Michigan). So opposition is actually declining!

Okay--it's not that bright--but it's something.

Yeah really--don't they realize they're probably being contaminated through the use of a gay founded board? You know how gays are about recruiting...gotta win that toaster! :rotfl2:

That is rather amazing and shows that he is more open-minded than the bigots who are using HIS facilities for nothing. Weird isn't it? :confused3

I'm not surprised, but I am saddened. They're declaring this a victory for marriage. I think it's a vote against love and happiness.

Amen :confused3 :guilty:

I truly believe gay marriage will become like interracial relationships were for the next generation. the kids that are growing up now- by the time that they're able to vote it won't be any big deal. They'll have grown up in a more open society and will see gay marriage as any other sort of marriage. don't give up hope, the times they are a changin'.

I agree. As my daughter reads her social studies book, she's amazed that at one time in history African Americans had to ride in the back of the bus; women didn't have the right to vote; child labor was allowed etc etc. One day in the future, kids will be just as amazed to read that in the past, gay couples could not legally marry.

I think our children will be the ones to right this wrong. I wonder if we'll see it in our lifetime?

It's still strange to think that like when I was in school learning about some of the "strange" mindsets that people had and thinking about how my grandparents lived it that one day my grandkids will be going to school and learning about when we would allow people to get married just because they're of th same sex and come back and ask me how it's possible that people thought that way. It's actually embarrassing to think about it.

(or am I the only weirdo that thinks that far ahead?)
