Lisa and I went to see a production of " Big River" being done on Broadway by the Roundabout Theater Company in conjunction with the Deaf Theater of the West. Big River is the story of Huckleberry Finn and is a musical written by Roger Miller. The show is done in both English and ASL and all the actors sign their parts. If an actor is hearing impaired they also have an actor who "voices" the part. It was brilliantly staged and beautiful to watch. At one point near the end of the show most of the cast is on stage singing/signing. All of a sudden the orchestra stops for a chorus and the singers keep singing/signing. It was SO amazing to watch, and even Lisa said that she could " hear " the music in her head....I could too.....
After a few minutes of watching their hands, I almost forgot that most shows are not signed and it became just another part of the production.
If anyone is visiting NYC and looking for an excellent show to go to, besides the Disney ones that is....I highly recommend " Big River"
