Well, after 6 weeks of very civil crowds I finally encountered a bad apple.

Lauri's working today so her mother comes with me to the Disney Store this morning for today's pin release. We arrived at the mall at 9 and waited patiently for the store to open at 10. Slowly, other people start to arrive after 9:30 .... one older lady we've seen there the past few weeks, a friend of Lauri's (a cop who patrols her mall) is with his pin-trading wife, a few other people, and two couples I've never seen before.

The gate opens and everyone heads for the pin rack. Very calm and civil crowd. No pushing, no grabbing, no fighting. I get the pins for myself and for Lauri's mom, and get out of the way so I can divide the pins into two piles. I find I have one Dumbo poster more than I need, so I take it back up to the rack. While I'm looking at the rack to see what's left and what isn't (Pocahontas was wiped out), the two ladies who were last in line had been talking about something, I don't know what, but one of them commented "this is bull****." The other said something in agreement, then looked up at me, and said "Next week why don't you bring all your neighbors again."

I didn't want to get into anything in the middle of the Disney Store, but now I'm really regretting telling this lady off. We got no more pins today with Lauri's mom there in her place that we would have had Lauri been there instead. We were also picking up pins for friends of ours who can't make it to the Disney Store this morning as we've done in past weeks.

She may even be reading this, so if she is, I'm sure she knows who she is and I have one last thing to say --- get to know the people you'll be in line with for the next 6 weeks before you start criticizing them.

You should of took the back of the pin off, and well you know the rest ;)

Sorry to hear that Matthew. I thought all the ugliness was finally over. Everyone who knows you knows that you weren't doing anything wrong so you have to try to ignore her I guess. If you can't do that, the Connecticut Contingent will just have to come to Virginia to kick some butt!! (ok all you serious folk out there...it was a JOKE!!!:D intended to get Matthew to smile...)

Leslie

Why not just smile nicely and thank them for the great suggesstion!

Matt I could never be that nice to a person like that. Just tell her it is NONE OF HER BUSINESS........
Some people are never happy. She and her friend need a life or something else I cannot mention on this board.
STICK IN THERE........

Matt,

Laughter is the best Medicine!
Now me, not being a morning person and a
Native New Yorker to boot.. might not have "let it go"
But biting sarcsasm feels better than nothing.

I would of looked at my mother-in-law and said, oh
shoot Ma! We left Jethro and Tilly out in the Truck.
I knew I was forgetting Something! But Dang nab it,
I gots my pins! LOL.

Being the personable guy you are.. they probably looked at
all the friendly chatting going on in the front of the line
and well... they assumed that Mr. Tall/Dark/ Handsome
with older woman in tow, obviously had fathered all others on line.
Good Grief!
How do we spell M-O-R-O-N?
Pins! That's all they are... People who still have no respect
will find pins ever eluding them!

On that note, do any NICE Pin Folk need any of today's or last weeks pins?

Kathy

Hmmm.. Matthew called me at work and told me about this latest episode at the Disney Store. I got to thinking about it. Last time I sent him and my Mom on a Saturday, my Mom was bodychecked by someone wanting to get to the rack before her.. now this. When I am there with him, nothing happens. It's peaceful. People actually wait for me to go in first.

I think I scare them

Matt,
I am nervous about the very same thing.
As you all know, I work every Saturday and Sunday. Leslie has been very kind waiting from 7:30 until 10 every week in order to get the pins I want for me.
Well she has some nerve, she is going to WDW on Dec 1. So I found someone to work for me and I will be doing the waiting game.
I am going to be in line with all the strangers who got to know Leslie in these past weeks. I am sure they will eye me suspiciously and call me names under their breath such as EBAY and other equally vicious names.
I am so glad the University is closing for Thanksgiving weekend. That will give me a chance to go with Leslie and maybe meet some of her group. Maybe they won't be that bad if I do a preview of the wait game.
Or should I just go on December 1 with a football helmet and cleats? Peggie

Won't matter.

Peggie,

With your new hair, you look like twins. :D

The people in line won't even notice. ;)

Matt, I might not have been as quiet as you were this morning!

Lauri, one of my red-headed colleagues says, "I don't have this read hair for nothing!"

Matthew,
So YOU'RE the reason that I can't get the pins I need each week!!! :D
Gee, the nerve of you getting that many pins so that others can't get what they need

When I got there today, Pocohontas and Lullabye Land were sold out. Each week it gets worse. Fortunately I made it over to another Disney Store and got the two pins I needed.

I'm still missing the New Adventures of Pooh pin from last week though. The people like you described are part of the reason that I don't rush to the store EARLY. (Trevor is the other reason!) I usually get there around 11 or Noon or so and take my chances. Each week has had me making trips to more than one Disney Store to get the set of pins for the week.

I will be glad when all of this is over!

Sue Ellen

Here are a few snappy responses for next time.

"Next week why don't you bring all your neibors again."

#1. "Oh that wouldn't be necessary. You see these are all my wives, we belong to a cult that worships sharp pointy objects. Hey, would you like to join!"

#2. "Neibors who needs neibors. I have friends! Gee, guess you are all out. Bummer."

#3. " Well I would but I don't have a car big enough. Hey, judging from the way you paint your face, you must have a clown car around here some where. Can I borrow it?"

#4. "Gee that's an idea! See Disney does bring out the good in people. Thanks for your help."

I hope this brings you a little humor. I have a habbit of sitting there in shock when someone says things like that to me. But remember the boyscout moto. "Be prepared."

Take it easy,

Karen

Your Lucky SueEllen. Noon-ish here would most likely mean one, maybe two pins. (If you are lucky.)

Thanks for the advice and the laughs, everyone. :)

I dropped by the store again yesterday afternoon and they were almost wiped out of this week's pins. When I got there, there was one Sleepy, a few Buzz Lightyears, and some of the Tigger Movie and Dumbo poster pins left. I don't recall past weeks pins going this fast at this store.

The manager recognized me and we talked for a bit. Apparently one customer who arrived shortly after DMIL and I did and was there when the CMs arrived to open the store didn't get a complete set. She had stopped to look at other merchandise on the way in and by the time she got to the rack, at least one pin was gone. The manager is now thinking about keeping the pins behind the counter at opening and having an actual line instead of everyone swarming the pin rack. I also mentioned to her about what the woman said to me and she looked at me in disbelief.

On the other hand, I did find out some incredible news --- Monsters Inc has a veerrrrrrrrry interesting trailer attached to it.

Star Wars Episode 2

:bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Lauri and I want to see Monsters Inc anyway .... I think it just hopped to the top of our to do list for today. :D

Matt I saw the trailer it is a very big tease...HEHE looks cool but oh man the name... "Attack of the Clones"? I groaned....

Sue Ellen I will look and see if my store still has that pin. They probably do.... HEHE

figgy

Matthew,

Sorry you have encountered your first case of what I refer to as the *uglies.* Hang in there and hopefully the next few weeks will be nice and calm...BUT I doubt it! :D :D :D

Sue Ellen,

I have an extra Pooh from last week if you still need one. You can have it at cost (naturally). :D I got my signals crossed and picked it up for a friend who didn't need it. I'm doing that a lot lately (getting my signals crossed). :( A mind is a terrible thing to lose. ;)

My question is:
Why are these pins being put on the rack?? They should be behind the counter. We havee a line outside our store on Saturdays (I have worked 3 or 4 so far) and they come in and request whatever. no more than two sets on the first day allowed, please. We have only had one complaint, and that was in the 3rd week. Maybe you might want to mention this to the mgr at the store you go to. Having them on the rack like that is inviting trouble, in my opinion.

Have not seen the "Monstres, Inc." movie yet, but heard that the SW trailer is exclusive to this movie. let's see, it grossed $65 mil over the weekend, which breaks down t????

Gimme more SW anyday!

Good luck next week, and may the Force be w/u.

Wow, it seems like some people are just miserable. I know at my local Disney store after the first week (which I missed) they started selling the pins behind the counter not on a rack. I hear that first week it got real ugly with shoving and just grabbing pins.

It's about trading!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Everyone have a Disney Day!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :bounce:
