I received a phone call from VMK

I sent a fax to one of the contact numbers for Disney and just got a phone call from them. He said the letters and phone calls and emails have not been ignored but as of now they will still be closing VMK. I explained that my kids loved VMK especially because it was just like being in the Magic Kingdom and I asked if there would be anything like it again and he said that he can't say with absolute certainty but in the "not so distant future" there could be something that we would like very much. He thanked me for contacting them and that was it.

Again, we're still reaching the first tier only. Keep trying to get to the higher levels. The fact that members are now receiving phone calls means that the word is starting to penetrate.

Curious about the "not so distant future" comment. It may be the issue is between Sulake and Disney over VMK's programming code. Disney may not own that and so may be trying to negotiate a purchase of it, lease of it, or will need to rebuild from scratch. That he didn't just point you to Fairies and Cars but "a something we will really like" makes me really wonder; especially in light of the sudden announcement and the 6-week lead time to closing. Hmmm.

Iiiiiiiiiiiiinteresting.

However...I'm not so great at shutting up. And I really don't intend to start doing it now.

Keep 'er coming, folks! Whether it's convenient for them or not...whether they want to or not...

THEY ARE HEARING US!! :cheer2:

That's what I thought and he didn't sound very happy that they were ending VMK. I specifically asked about another kind of game with the parks involved and that was his response. I told him how we have tried Toontown and how very boring it was for my kids. I kind of wondered if it had something to do with the contract with Sulake.

Today, I was watching a bit the informations I could get on Toontown and Pirates, I found out that the engine behind both games where a free engine called Panda3d, VMK is managed and created by Sulake.

Now, I hope that what they meant by not so distant future is not cars online because I read that it was related with the new rides in Disney parks.

Well at least they are getting our letters and recognizing them. It's a start:thumbsup2

I tried writing an e-mail to Sulake earlier today (go to sulake.com if you want to do this) asking about why VMK was closing. If I get any sort of useful response I'll post it on Dis.

I truly feel your pain with vmk leaving... which number did you call i must speak with someone i no there are many numbers. which was it?

Yes. This is what I'm wondering now too.

But then, it could be several different reasons they came up with.

You might. But who knows? It might be in the contract that they can't talk about it.:confused3

See, if it *is* the contract with Sulake and nothing can be done with that, I think I would accept that. But if that's the case, I don't understand why they can't just come right out and say "We're sorry, our contract with the original producers of the game has run out and we can't do anything about that". I would have a whole lot more respect for them if that was actually the case and they could just admit it. Instead they have to parade out the Walt quotes and make themselves look so *magical* like their decision is just oozing with pixie dust. When we all know that's not the case. So why are they fooling themselves? They're certainly not fooling us.

Think about it... 2011 is WDW's (well, MK's) 40th birthday... yeah it's 3 years off, but who knows maybe they will start it earlier... and yeah it's not the 50th yet, but it's still a big birthday :)

2010 is DLR's 55th.

I think it would be symbolic if VMK went from the 50th Celebration to the 55th Celebration (as I have already found out will be big, but not as big as the 50th).

C'mon, VMK! Just two more years! :thumbsup2

Then you can close all you want!

::yes:: ::yes:: ::yes::

If they are planning something new and wonderful why don't they just tell us. Give us a preview. Unless it is very very similiar to VMK it is going to take off like a lead balloon anyway. Why dont' they put all this creative and innovative energy into making VMK better? IF they want to promote cars, pirates, and fairies... INCORPORATE IT INTO VMK!!!!!!!!!!!!! Have a " car land" have a " fairy land"! Come on people... if it ain't broke don't fix it. GOSH

This is what I've been wanting. I'm really not into the whole "all things must come to an end" thing. Especially for the players who have been around since Beta times. I believe the VMK community deserves some mode of frank conversation about the causes for the end, instead of a trite phrase packaged in Walt's magic words. If there was a problem that truly precludes VMK from going on (financial, contractual or otherwise) be real with us. I think we deserve that much!
