I'm 40...I just got home from being told that there's a 90 percent chance I have blockage in 2 of my arteries. I'm having a heart cath on Monday.

I have 3 kids and not much family to help me. This is so hard to type because it's setting in as I do it.

I almost lost my DS 3 years ago (and believe that prayer and a GREAT doctor saved him) and don't want to put the family through this. I'm trying to keep a stiff upper lip for my family, especially my Mom, she's in bad health and far away.

I'm not asking for pity, but if you can spare some prayers and healthy heart info, I would so appreciate it.

P.S. Has anyone gone through this? I feel like my mind is blank and I have a family to take care of (along with 3 kids who's parents are away caring for a Marine shot in the head i8n Iraq). How can I be so selfish...if it isn't too much trouble, could you add a prayer for Lance Corpral Colin Smith.

I guess this does sound like a pity party, but I just needed some support.

Thank you so much for listening and for all of your thoughts !

I'm at a loss for words at the moment. I'm so sorry to hear this. :grouphug: I hope everything turns out for you :wizard: and that another poster will come along to offer some advice.

Big hugs for you!!! I have to tell you my father in law just went in for the same test because they suspected the same thing. It turned out to be fine! He had a MINOR blockage that they could deal with through medication only. Try not to stress and don't worry before you need to, think positive thoughts!!

My mom is going through some heart probs - I just spoke with her Dr yesterday. Patients can go home same day after the heart cath if nothing is wrong - stay overnight if it's not too serious. Sounds optimistic. :goodvibes

Trust in your dr and the power of prayer! We will be praying for nothing too serious for you!

Thanks !!!!!!!!!

I had no idea how comforting it would feel to know you guys are wishing me and Colin well.

I guess it was "settling in". I wondered nhow long it would take. I was suprised at how long I held out before "I lost it".

I'm trying to keep a PMA as my brother calls it (positive mental attitude), but we'll see how that'll go after I speak with my parents.

Thanks for listening !!!!!!

It's not a pity party. You've been hit with something difficult and unexpected. I don't know much about heart issues but will think good thoughts the all works out fine on Monday. Hoping Colin is ok as well.

I have been through this with DH a few time. DH was 42 when he had a heart attack.

The actual procedure doesn't take long at all (approx. 1hr) After the procedure, you will have to lie flat on you back for a couple hrs. If the procedure is done first thing in the morning, you could be out by late afternoon.

If they find a blockage of a certain %, they will most likely put a stent in. DH's dr. only does the stent if the blockage is over 70%. If they do a stent, you will stay overnight.

Best of luck to you.

Prayers for you and your family in this scary time.

Here is a step by step description of the procedure, before, during, and after. If you are like me, it's the unknown that realy freaks me out, so knowing all the details helps. If you are a TMI person, maybe skip it.

The bright side: you are relatively young and will bounce back quickly. It was caught before a full blockage, And heart procedures are very common and doctors have lots of experience and options for treament to get you to a full recovery.

Please don't panic! Wait and see what the next test results bring...they all too often are so sure that it's ominous and it ends up not being the case at all.

Sending hugs, prayers and lots of good thoughts that it will be not as bad as it seems right now.

God Bless :grouphug:

Thank you sooo much for the info. It means alot that you spentthe time getting it for me. I'm definately NOT a TMI person. The more I know, the more confident I feel. It's just right now my mind is frozen. Normally, I'm researching myself. With my DS, it was a brain injury and I learned alot about it. But that helped me help my friend with her son (but he was shot), I also did help a girl when she slammed her head on the concrete (like my son). So I guess that we'll have to help each other.

I feel the hugs !!! Thanks again !!!!! Hugs back to you all !!! :grouphug:

:grouphug: to you and Colin. I'm hoping the tests come out well for you.

Bless your heart, of course you are in shock, not the news any of us wish to hear sweetie  . Sending positive thoughts, prayers and big ((hugs)). Modern technology is wonderful and I've had a couple friends who've had this procedure done, incl stents added, and were home next day. Easier said than done, take care of yourself, try to think positive and keep the faith. ^i^

Sending prayers for Colin's recovery and his family too! How sad. :sad1:

Praying for peace, strength and good medical care.
