While I was not particularly fond of either candidate, it is just now dawning on me what a historical night this has truly been.. I am 59 years old.. I never thought I would live to see an African American elected as the President of the United States..

I can't help but wonder.. Will I one day see a woman become the President of the United States?

I guess I am just now realizing how exciting it is to see history in the making!!

What does it mean to me? It gives me hope.. That anything and everything is possible in this great country..

I don't have a crystal ball.. I don't know what will happen during this presidency, but the one thing that I do know is that I am proud to be an American and I intend to go forward with hope and optimism..:thumbsup2

I keep hearing that and while I realize Obama has just grabbed the gold ring, I honestly feel it was inevitable, not impossible.

Very well said. It is an historic night and very significant. America has just elected a racial minority from a humble background with the middle name Hussein and a last name that rhymes with Osama. This does not happen in other countries, but it happened here. The America haters around the world must be apoplectic and tomorrow people around the world will be asking themselves if they really understand the USA. Once again America has demonstrated the ability to surprise and reinvent itself.

I disagree with President-Elect Obama on many issues, but I congratulate him and wish him the very best. I'll support his policies when I can and oppose them when I need to.

Me too!

What a great speech Obama gave!

Anything is possible. We are American. We can do anything we put our hearts to. We are one.

Here's to more history making moments in our life times!

Inevitable, if you think in terms of cold mathematical ratios and statistics. But historic and overdue in terms of society and humanity for the US.

I agree 100%. After months and months of not wanting to hear another word about this election, I found myself tearing up during Obama's speech. Yes, I voted today -- first time since 1992 -- because I knew how important it was, and I knew that I had to do my part to facillitate change in this country -- but I had no idea Obama's victory would effect me the way it did. I am proud to have voted, and very proud of my fellow Americans. I hope and pray that the pride and inspiration and HOPE that the majority of the nation feels tonight continues for years to come. I further hope that the grace and wisdom of McCain's concession speech reaches those who didn't vote for Obama, and that they take his message to heart -- we must all work together to get this country back on track. Together!

C.Ann,

I am very emotional tonight, actually all day. What you wrote was wonderful, amazing and very positive and you know what...Yes You Can!

If this can happen in our great country, one day and soon we will see a woman President.

I am totally shocked.. For months now the bickering on the DIS over this election was driving me nuts and now that it's over - and I've seen history in the making - I'm so gosh darn hyped up I can't go to sleep!!! :rotfl:
