A local family here fostered a dog that was misplaced during Hurricane Katrina. The dog belonged to a single mother in New Orleans and the dog was her childs. This local family is now going to court to try and keep the dog. Sorry but don't you think the people in New Orleans have been through enough? I mean they lost their homes their belongings and everything else. the person who took the dog in claimed they did all they could to contact the owner by using the info. on the dogs tags. But of course they wouldn't be able to reach them if they lost their home, um they would have lost their phone as well. Where is the compassion? And there are so many dogs being put to sleep daily, I would think that the local family here could try and save a dog that really needs a home instead of taking the one thing left the New Orleans family has.

That is so sad. What a horrible thing this foster family is doing. :sad2:

I just read this in my local paper. I am really angered by this family. It is a disgrace. The NO woman is a single mom, working full time and does not have her home rebuilt. And now the family wants to keep her dog because the consulted a "Dog Whiperer" or something and the NO woman cannot get to this area so she wants to put the dog on a plane and the family thinks it will be too tramatic for the dog.

The family has gotten a lawyer so the NO woman has to get one too. Hasn't she been through enough. Unbeilevable. Have some compasion for the victims.

P.S. Sorry this story really got me going this morning. It was front page and I was really mad.

I no it hurt me to the core. We are driving tonight to New Orleans from Downingtown, PA which is about an hour I think from Doylstown. If it were a matter of transportation then I would be more then willing to give the dog a ride home. But to me it sounds like it goes deeper then that.
Its sad because it does seem like the NO woman said she would send someone to get the dog and now the local woman wants to go to court.

 I feel so bad for the family and for the dog, all of them have been through more than anyone should ever have to go through.

Up until last year I belonged to 2 nationwide dog rescue groups (too demanding job had to give it up) and have fostered 7 of them, I adopted all of them BUT the key word is FOSTER...had these dogs had family that had been in a unforeseen situation that had seperated them there is no doubt they would have been re-united with their loved ones.my hearts' pleasure (my 7 had all been dumped to fend for themselves)

So I say shame on that "foster" family...what they are doing now un-does any good they did for that fur-baby. Please keep us updated if you hear anything else

There was one in Sunday's paper about an 86 year old man who wants his dog back too, which is being kept by a Pittsburgh area woman. Someone from around here went to NO to get a bunch of pets, saying the people didn't deserve them because they "abandoned" them when they were told they couldn't take them when they were evacuated. Pretty sad.

What a sad situation.....

The adopting family may be wanting to keep the dog because the NO family might not have a stable home/adequate yard etc... for it yet......

However, I do think they should give it back eventually.

I have two dogs and there is no way I would have left them behind. I don't even leave them for more than 8 hrs at a time let alone days.

I would have taken dogs in from NO after it happened if I had any space...many of the dogs from NO came down here to South Florida, and it was a sad thing to see them. But now when people are getting their lives together and want to go back to some sembelence of normalacy--sad that this adopted family needs to do this to them. I wonder what kind of case the adopted family has. They will probaly claim abandonment and win the case. Very sad.

wrong!!

Foster is Foster! If the NO family wants it back and certainly for something like Katrina--they should get it back.

WHY are they wasting the COURTS time on this....I am hoping someone in authority will just tell this FOSTER family (or dognappers) to GIVE THE DOG BACK and right now!!!!!!!!!!

:furious:
