I put in a request for an exchange now I have a question

I'm waitlisted for a exchange to visit Va Beach this summer. Not sure if we will get in and of cause the planner in me is going to have a hard time waiting. My question is this can I make reservations at a WDW resort so at least we have a trip planned and have MS cancel this if my waitlist comes though? I hate to be left without any choices. thanks

If you have enough points to book both then yes I think you can. However, you can not borrow points to do an exchange. We didn't realize this until we called to check on our exchange. We are waiting to hear about Hawaii and our CM told us that if we don't have enough points available now, the trade will not go through. The CM don't have any control over the trades in that it is automatic so they can't cancel your WDW vacation to have your points available for the trade. Does that make sense?

No they don't take any points from you till an exchange is found. You pay a fee of $95 for the exchange and if it isn't found they even refund this.

PEANUT1- I have to borrow some points to make the exchange and MS asked me if I would give her permission to automatically do this for me. Should I be worried?

I don't know....our CM told us that the exchange won't go through if you have to borrow points...one of us was given bad information.....

You can make a backup reservation with DVC with the plans of using those points if the exchange matches. You can either tell DVC what you are doing and to cancel said reservation or you can let them call you if you do not have the points. The only issue is if they can't get you in a reasonable amount of time, they will let the reservation go. It's usually around 24 hours or so that they will hold it but it seems variable. Or you could make a backup cancelable cash reservation in the area. This method works great when you must plan air, esp for FF miles reservations.
