Actually 2 questions - I'm waiting for Olympus Online support to get back to me on this one but thought I'd throw it out here. This morning I got on to download my pics from DISCon and I opened up the Camedia software and nothing happened - it got "hung up". So I restarted the computer and tried again. This time I got in so I double clicked on the "My Camera" which opens up my camera in order to view the pictures to download. Again, the computer gets hung up. I restart the computer - same thing happens. I reload the software, restart the computer - same thing happens. DH even changed the mouse because he was having problems with something else and thought it might be the mouse - fixed his problem but I just tried the camera again - same thing happens. Any ideas????

Second question - if we were to get another digital that uses the same card that the Olympus does (and I love my Olympus so I think if we ever got another camera it would probably be an Olympus but I'm not sure), would I be able to download my pics with that software? I'm assuming that any software will download the pics as long as it's compatible to the camera. Just checking.

I'm probably going to take the software and camera to work and try it there. If it works there then I suspect something has happened to our computer and something is missing. DD got SIMS Unleashed for Christmas and there is more than plenty of drive space, I'm wondering if maybe we need more running memory....is there anyway that I can check that out to see if we need more???? I think there is a way but I can't remember how to do it. I'm also gonna talk to my tech person at work and see if she has any ideas.

Thanks

I am not familar with the Olympus system.

I beg your forgivenss if this question seems idiotic, but did your camera come with a CD that you load onto the computer so that the computer will recognize your camera?

How is your camera hooked up to the computer...is it by a USB connection?

What windows operating system does your computer use?

As for the second question, if you get a card reader, it should work fine no matter what type of camera you used.

I assume that your camera probably connects to your computer via a USB cable, and that you read your memory card while it is still inserted into the camera. I would check the USB ports and drivers on your computer. Try plugging the camera into a different USB port and trying it again. If you have a USB hub installed to extend the number of USB ports on your computer, try removing it to verify it hasn't gone bad.

I actually have a seperate card reader installed on my computer and I read my memory cards by removing them from the camera and plugging them into my card reader. This allows me to transfer my pictures extremely quickly. Whether or not you could continue to use the same software would depend on whether or not the software you have supports the new camera. Or maybe, the new software would support your old camera. You could probably check with Olympus beforehand so you knew. Otherwise, you could use an external card reader like I described above.

Thanks.

I do have it hooked up through a USB connection. The camera hooks right into the computer. I knew coming here would help - I have wanted to get a card reader so maybe that is what I will do. I will try changing the USB hub (if there is more than one the computer, I'm not sure since the computer is a few years old). It runs on WIN98. Yes, it came with a CD to load the software with, which I redid (one of the first things I did).

I'll try changing the connection if I can and see if that works, if not I think I might be running to Best Buy to get a card reader tomorrow night!!! I have a gift card to use there anyway! Thanks guys

December, which operating system are you using?

I don't think I have yet to use my Camedia software. I just use the wizard on XP to download my pictures. It works like a charm.

Just my own 2 cents...I bought a card reader for my Canon digital camera and I got it at WalMart. It is a Lexar and it was very reasonably priced there. Check around on price before buying if you can, I don't necessarily think the card reader has to be the most expensive to do what you want it to do.

Good luck
