We're trying to plan our summer vacation. I have two girls 13 & 15. We are not a beach going kind of family. Exploring a major city sounds good. We've been to Montreal, Atlanta, New York. Any ideas? We're from CT, anything within a 10 hour drive would be do-able.

Virginia. I'm from CT too- love going to Va. There is Busch Gardens, Colonial Williamsburg, Paramount Kings Dominion, Washington DC and so much more. There is also Virginia Beach, even though you are not beach people, one day of beach relaxing could be fun, or you could just go and stroll the boardwalk- there are alot of unique pictue opportunities, with little scenes and such along the boardwalk.

D.C. or Boston get my vote....but I'd never explore a big city in the heat of summer. Have you been to Vermont? BEAUTIFUL! Burlington is a great city (but small of course compared to D.C. and Boston).

How about Quebec City? or the coast of Maine? Niagara Falls? I agree with the previous poster. I'd love to go to DC, but not in the summer.

My first thought was Washington DC - we did this last summer and added a few days in Philadelphia - we were visiting colleges. Our group was myself, DH, DS17, DS13 and DS11. Yes, it was HOT - but we managed very well and everything is air conditioned. Watch "National Treasure" before you go - DS11 begged me to go to the National Archives!!! The boys still talk about this trip - the monuments, the Spy Museum, Ford's Theater (where Lincoln was shot), US Capitol building, Library of Congress, Holocaust Museum, Smithsonians, etc. So much to do and see - we've already talked about what we want to do on our next trip there! Oh yes, DS13's choice was Washington National Cathedral - amazing!! I believe there's lots of shopping too, but not for my group of guys!

Colonial Williamsburg/Busch Gardens/Water Country is also a great trip!

Are/were your girls into Anne of Green Gables? I would probably do a vacation by driving up the Maine Coast and maybe going to Prince Edward Island.

My vote is for DC, too. I had fun going there with my family well into my teens.

DC is really cool.

As recommended Virginia is cool but I think it's more then 10 hours. It's 6 hours from here, and I'm in Delaware. Virginia's probably like 13 from Connecticut. However if you're willing to stretch time a little, Virginia and Busch is 100% WORTH IT!

Actually you're pretty far off the mark. I live outside of Providence RI and Washington DC is about 8hrs from here - maybe less depending on traffic, and Williamsburg is 9hrs away. I am slightly NW of CT

Okay, not "very far" off the mark, lol, fine, 9 hours from Connecticut!

That means CT is only 3 hours from here - wow!

Nashville maybe? You got the Grand Ole Opry, Wildhorse Saloon, Opryland. Your two hours from Memphis.
