I need u guys again. Upcoming trip. Question for my mom?

For years we have been visiting WDW my mom cannot walk so she utilizes a scooter. There are times where she will do some attractions and also when watching parades. They would have special viewing areas for wheelchairs. Since they changed the rules. I'm not sure what we are facing going to WDW. And if there are things we need to know. Anything different? Does she need to bring a note from her dr ? She is renting a scooter from Randy's mobility for the week. Please help. Thanks

I'll be curious to hear someone's response who has been there since the rule changes. I think the seating for wheel chairs should remain the same, but we haven't been since, so I'll be following...

Under the new DAS program, if the ECV "solves" her concerns in the lines then she will not need a DAS; most lines are accessible, and she'll be directed appropriately for those that are not. There are a couple of rides where she'll need to transfer to an attraction wheelchair because ECVs are not allowed in the line.

If she has other invisible issues that make it difficult for her to be in a queue, she should discuss those needs with Guest Relations when requesting a DAS. She does not need a doctor's note, and a CM will likely refuse to read it if she brings one. There is more about the DAS in the sticky at the top of this forum; the first few posts have the details.

As for wheelchair viewing areas, to my knowledge those have not changed. Depending on how crowded it is on any given day, you may still need to arrive early for this seating for parades. In our experience, they sometimes will restrict access to the person on the ECV/wheelchair plus 1 other (at attractions we're asked to have the rest sit one row ahead) and it can get quite crowded at parade viewing locations. Personally, we've found we prefer to scope out our own parade viewing location for the family.

Renting from Randy's, I'm sure they've already informed you/her that you'll need to make arrangements to meet them personally for pick-up and drop-off. I've heard good reviews that this is quite a smooth process with Randy's.

She has never needed anything before. I don't think she will need a DAS card. She doesn't really go on many rides. And most of them can accommodate the scooter. I like the idea of getting a spot for out our family ahead of time for parade viewing. Am I correct she doesn't need he card ??? DAS?

DAS stands for Disability Access Service and replaces the old GAC cards. If she didn't use a GAC, she likely has no need for a DAS unless anything has changed. WDW won't issue one for mobility-related needs, the recommended accommodation is to rent an ECV or wheelchair -- and you already plan to do that (or she has her own).

No card is required to use the H/A viewing areas.

We like to scope out our parade seats early and use the time to take a break -- send someone for drinks/snacks/lunch or whatever.
