I need to VENT!!

After looking at about a million homes to rent and recieving many generous offers my DH and I finally picked one. I was under the assumption (and ready to send money) when she emails me today to inform me that her husband has already rented the property:confused3 Of course I already deleted the offers from other owners! We are going April 3 to April 11 and properties are getting difficult to find! I am to the point of screaming:eek: Thankyou all I guess its back to the websites for me!!!:sad2:
 
Was this through a personal owner or a company? We are renting from
vacationbythemouse.com
for April 28 to May 12. They have been extremely wonderful with all my questions and changes.

Oh a personal owner. I thought I could get a better deal that way. She did give me a good deal but then the rental fell through!:confused3

I am so sorry this happened. Obviously it's not of the norm. I hope you get an even better offer this time around. :goodvibes
 
While it's not the norm, it's also the case that until you've got a deposit down, the owner is unlikely to turn away another renter with cash in hand.
 
We've rented at least 4 times from villadirect.com.
Never had a problem. The homes were exactly as pictured on their website which has great slide shows and virtual tours. My kids like their website so much, we go back to see the homes we've stayed in like a photo album!

I cannot second this recommendation, although I know others do like it. They do not keep their database updated. We put in a request and I got about 50 "returned undeliverable" email replies (in addition to several offers from owners, or course). My asumption was that my request was sent automatically to owners who had changed their email address, and the return/nondeliverables went to me. I also find the site very hard to navigate with lots of glitches.

We use VRBO, villadirect, or fabvillas.com. Just my two cents.

I have had some problems with it too in the last couple of days. Instead of tiaking you to the owner's site where you can check availability and rates, sometimes you go right back to the home page. Very frustrating.

I did get some automated responses and at least 10 answers from owners.
All of them are booked for my desired dates (Mardi Gras is Feb 20th).
 
We tell all guests that you do not have a confirmed reservation until we have a signed and returned rental agreement (ERA) and 25% reservation deposit, period. We sometimes have dozens of outstanding quotes for the same dates and 100s of emails a day, so yes, the policy is first come first served. The same thing has happened to us quite a few times already, frustrating for us too! We then try and find someone another nice place to stay in or make a few recommendations if their dates are not flexible.
