Just found out I need to go to an anniversary party for my aunt/uncle in 3 weeks. Tried on my "party dress" tonight.......it was a little snug. In the "BC days" (before children) I could just pick at this or that for a few days and bamo---5 pounds gone. Now, thanks to those precious gems called children I look at food and it's on the outside of my stomach, not IN my stomach.
I'm not a regular exerciser (I know I know) and a picky eater.

I'm guessing Atkins is the way to go?? Shew, I hate meat though.

Cut out all soda and eat stuff that makes ya "go", Cut out salt too just makes ya hold in water... eat watermelon its a natual diuretic :)

My fail proof way of dropping extra pounds is doing a no white flour or sugar diet. I eat all of the true whole wheat I want, and there are such good brands now that it's not such a sacrifice. Add a 30 minute slow jog a day and the weight will come right off.

If you want food suggestions, let me know. I pretty much eat this way all the time except when I'm treating myself, and I LOVE good food.

I would just buy a new dress:banana:

Cut carbs ( I like no white anything, but that includes brown sugar, rice, etc) and cut calories. Move 30 minutes more per day than you usually do. This will be a piece of cake. I will start with you tomorrow. Do you want company?

How about Monday..........too much good food after church on Sundays. And I just bought a bottle of wine I want to finish off tomorrow evening.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: I am the WORST dieter on the planet.

See you on Monday but I am going to cheat and get a day up on you! ;)

5 pounds * 3500 calories per pound / 100 calories per mile / 21 days = walk about eight and a half miles (extra) per day. That's about 2 1/2 hours; figure an hour in the morning before work, a half-hour during lunch, and an hour in the evening after work.

Try to not eat any high fructose corn syrup--good luck but it can be done. I tried doing that after reading an article on how your body doesn't process it well and I lost 5 pounds just doing that. I ate things without it completely or was very low on the ingredient list.

high protein, deplete your carbs down to the bare min. eat several very small meals a day. cut your bread out. go more with your egg whites, slices of turkey rolled with cheese, lettuce etc.

Do not go to crazy with the water, you can actually bloat yourself if you are not careful. Just drink what you need to get by. a lot of people do not realize that to much water is just as bad if not worse then none at all!

I used to be a bodybuilder and would completely deplete before comps. and this is what we would do.
do however start your day with "STEEL CUT" oatmeal, for your energy levels! I use John McCann's

Anyone see the commercial recently, which basically posits that there is no good reason to avoid HFCS? Simple sugars, of all sorts, is "bad", but I suspect that the point they're making is that there is no scientific reason to believe that HFCS is worse than others.

I'd like to see snopes.com weigh in on the issue.

The reality is that avoiding many things typically results in weight-loss. If you avoid wheat, you'll lose weight, for example.

What is really needed is a set of peer-reviewed research, publishing on MEDLINE, that definitively prove that avoiding one specific ingredient is specifically useful. AFAIK, that's not happened.

Thanks for this thread!! I've gzained 5 pounds since I started my new job (much more sedentary than my last one). That would be OK except that my weight had already crept up by 5 pounds over the last 3 years. Everything is too snug and it's driving me crazy! (And pants that were the right length are now too short 'cause they have more fat to stretch around, KWIM?) :)

Keep all the advice coming, folks! (I'm defintely gonna go out and buy some oatmeal to eat for BF)!

I stopped drinking soda including diet. I can't tell you how many lbs but noticed a difference in my clothes.

Loads of water, lots of walking and lower carbs and the type of carbs while stepping up veggie intake. Carbs eaten should be carbs with fiber like fresh fruit, small baked potatoe, carrots and high fibre bread. Low fat dairy products and meats. Did I say step up the exersize? Easily lose 2 lbs a week with this method-water, walk, fiber, low carb/fat, more veggies. Obviously, empty calories like soda should go-if you're a real junkie, split a can with someone or buy those small cans.

It's a chemically altered food as are hydrogenated fats and therefore harder to digest because the pancreas/liver/kidneys do not recognize them. Since we've avoided HFCS and hydrogenateds wherever possible, we've all gotten healthier and lost some weight. I no longer need my diabetic medicine and my doctor is amazed because I've done nothing else. In all fairness, I was only taking one pill because I was in the new zone that used to be called 'borderline.' We're not perfect at this because this stuff is in places you would not believe such as most commercially made breads. Once in a while, a shortcut is necessary but we feel ok about it because we're not eating huge amounts on a daily basis like most people. If you try to eat all 'natural' foods, altered materials are not in them. Take a look at Bryers 'natural' -no HFCS, Sarah Lee breads marked '100% natural' - no HFCS and so forth.

And for my wife and I, we cannot tell you how many pounds we've not gained because we drink diet soda.

It's a little like the Hawthorne Effect: Just doing something could have positive impact, even if what you do is completely unrelated to what you're trying to accomplish: Just the light of interest, itself, could have some (temporary) positive impact.

Harder to digest is a good thing, as far as many aspects of this issue are concerned: Fiber is harder to digest than sugar.

Nothing is cut-and-dried. The problem with hydrogenated oils is not that they're chemically-altered nor that they're harder to digest.

Since we've avoided sugar and trans-fatty acids we've gotten healthier and lost some weight. Any sugar or fat you avoid is good; but don't just stop at HFCS and hydrogenated oils. Again, without evidence there is no reason to believe that they're any worse for you than any other ingredient in the same class.

Harder to digest is a good thing? This is so not true! and because I have to run out the door and I am not going to get into it with you. but you are wrong.
