Okay, I booked our trip for the same dates as we went last year 1/27-2/2. We will be in the parks Mon-Thurs. and possibly Fri. (if it is decent this may be our pool day).
Well, I saw the Medical/Canon convention on the Anaheim convention website and it is only from 1/29-1/31 but I did not know it is expected to draw 45K people.
Flights are booked and we made ressie's for DL Hotel. It appears that numerous hotels including resort hotels are not booked up as of yet.
The Craft and Hobby show was going on while we were there last year and it was expected to bring in 22K people. They definitely did not show up at the park because we walked on to pretty much everything the days we were there.

I think we should be okay because we have three EE days in there. The park was DEAD this time last year. I need support people- trying to stay positive!!

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about that convention one bit. It's obviously business related and since school is in session during that time, I highly doubt many people would pull their families out of school to go with dad (or mom) to such a convention.

Just be happy it's not during a Cheer convention! :cheer2: BTDT, Very Very annoying!

I hear you, that is what I told DH- at least there will not be cheerleaders. We are taking DS out of school four days (1/28 is some type of in service day) but I know a lot of people don't like to yank their kids out of school. DS is only in kindergarten and they go just over 2.5 hours a day. Thanks for the support!!

If the hotels are not sold out, then you should be fine. The conventions that really affect the parks tend to be the ones where everyone stays on property, and anything with cheerleaders! Like PP said, this type of convention is going to bring business people there for business and they are more likely to go hang out at the bar at Ruth's Chris after the day's activities rather than hang out at Disneyland.

Every time i go off season there is something going on and i get scared but in the end it isnt anything near summer season..... you'll be fine

NOOO:eek: I am scheduled for exactly the same dates! we picked that time because my daugher gets really freaked out in crowds and I wanted the absolute slowest time. Any other good times in the spring!

Don't freak out! Honestly, these are awesome dates to go. The business convention should have little to no impact on park attendance. :goodvibes

Ok I will breath ( chanting anti freak out mantra) :goodvibes I have just spent every (almost) waking hour planning and thinking about this first ever disney trip and want it to be great. It would be terrible to think that I may get fired for reading the DIS non stop at work for a trip that may be terrible. Too bad it's not a convention of grumpy disney hating medical mecanics, then it would be just fine!:rolleyes1 So you really think that even though it is a large convention, the park will still be slowish ( is that a real word? I wanted that week because DD has no school for 3 of the 5 week days and would only miss 2 days of HS class to go.

They'll be there because they have a convention to go to, not disneyland to go to. You'll be fine, if anything the evenings may pick up a bit but it's still a business trip and it's very unlikely many of them attending will bring their families out of work and school to miss an entire week. You'll be fine.

Don't feel bad it is a blip on the radar you wont even notice them. We went to WDW in Feb and their was a home builders convention and a cheerleaders convention. The home builders convention alone brought approx 100,000 people into WDW resort alone as they were all staying onsite. That's not including the cheerleaders. We saw them but it was not that bad. Like XTinabell said you will see them in the evenings. Best advice is to make sure you have a evening ps/adr.

Ok me too, I wil keep the panic at bay :thumbsup2 I just have to say I love these boards! you guys can always be counted on for help and reassurance.

How soon to make reservations for DTD restaurants?

I believe the restaurants at the hotels and parks are 60 days out and I am not sure about Rainforest, etc. I think I will definitely have some Ps's especially for dinner. We are going to try having groceries delivered for sandwich and breakfast stuff for our room. That should help cut down costs as well.
I was really hoping to get AP rates for this trip as they had them last year at the same time. With the convention, I am thinking that wont happen for the week we are going.
