He will have awakened from a full nights sleep so napping is out of the question.

I will bring a drink and snacks but what else?

Any suggestions?

What worked for you?

books
window clingy's for window
crayons
cheap wrapped toys....it takes a few extra seconds for them to unwrap it.
stickers
ipod with children's music

a whole lot of patience :)

Something new!

When DS was about that age, we flew to Ohio--not quite 2 hours--and we got a great wildlife sticker book that he and I did together, I even enjoyed it--really great national geographic-like photos and you place the animals in their habitat (or get silly and put giraffes in the ocean!)

2 hours is about half hour of taking off excitement and half hour of landing excitement, with snacks and window looking and such it goes by very fast!

I was nursing DS then, so I planned that for take-off (for ears), but he had no interest--so much to see/hear!

Funny note: DS (3 now) STILL talks about dipping pretzels into fizzy water (club soda) on the plane to Ohio, obviously his favorite part of the flight. That took at least 20 minutes!

What about the Crayola Wonder Markers or whatever they are called (the one's that only color in the special paper they come with). My DD(1) thinks these are a great treat because she can't normally have markers.

She also likes the travel sized Magnadoodle and stickers

When my kids were small, I'd buy those Colorforms kits...remember those? The pictures are removable & they can move them from one page to the next. My youngest is 12yo now, so it's been 10 yrs. since I've bought them, but I guess they are still around?

Snacks, small new toys, coloring book, Dvd player with movies, new book, if possible their own seat...I put my DS in his car seat and he knew he could not get up and was comfy. Good luck...and don't worry if your child cries or acts up - lots of children do. You can also get up and have him walk up and down to the aisle.

Crayons and stickers. She was also really happy with the snacks the stewardesses were giving out.

Snacks, portable DVD player, quiet toys, stickers.
Is he a lap baby or will he have a seat?
My son loved the airplane! 2 hours is a pretty quick flight so it shouldn't be terrible.

Portable DVD player, less than $100 at Best Buy, Wal-mart, Target.

DS, when 22 months, would sit for a 2 hour flight, no problem.

Either a cartoon or Baby Einstein DVD.....we used headphones so he could hear over the plane noise. We practiced using them a few weeks before the trip.

Haven't taken a flight (including 4 transatlantic) without it since, and DS is 9 now. (OK, now we use an IPOD, but back then, there were no IPODs....)

Thanks all. He doesnt really like stickers or coloring and doesn't really care about TV.

He does loves to eat so thats part of of my plan for sure. He will play with our iphones for a while but not more than 5 minutes or so. I will take a new book or to.

I have not hear of colorforms but will look that up today.

he is a lap baby but I can hold one of my girls and let him have a seat if needed.

One of you mentioned small toys.....what kind? Any ideas?

Any more suggestions??

As an FYI, the airlines will tell you that you must use headphones with anything like a DVD player. So if your little one is not used to them, make sure you try them out ahead of time. It would be very frustrating to get on the plane, and have it not work out.

You can also find magnetic _______ (I'm not sure what they're called).
We have two that are about 7"x7". They are about 3/4" thick and they open like a book. You put the magnetic pieces on the inside and make a scene with them. One of the ones we have has wildlife animals and I think the other one is a farm.
