I open car doors in the morning for all the kiddies at school and some mornings this winter it will easily be 30º. I need some kick butt gloves in black. Can any of you northerners recommend a quality brand?

Take a look at LLBean. I find they have the best quality winter clothing for reasonable cost.

Get a pair of 180 degrees they are lightweight and durable.

Then when it gets real cold out you pop this valve and blow into them to heat your hands.

I like Isotoners. I have them in all different styles.

My parents gave me a pair of cashmere lined leather gloves from L.L Bean last year. They are awesome. They are black also.

No glove recommendations, but a tip: if it's a Honda Odyssey and the door handles are black (instead of the same color as the car) the doors are NOT automatic. Ours aren't, and DD isn't strong enough to open the door herself, so she climbs up and out through the front door. (The helpers usually just stand there, expecting the doors to open.)

I've had Isotoners as well... and they aren't bad. I personally just prefer any black leather with Thinsulate lining. I've found some great ones at Target for about $15. I like the total leather since they are water resistant to a certain point. They are about all I wear in the winter (unless I am shoveling snow and then I pull out my waterproof ones).

Just curious. Why do you open doors for all the kids? Is there actually a person to help kids out of their cars???

Thanks everyone for the recs. I'll look into a few of these, esp the LLBean's.

Yeah, there are about 6 of us and two deputies that open doors each morning at the elementary school. We have two lanes, so it's partially out of safety but really just to greet them each morning. :)

And thanks for the tip about the black handles, Barb. We have several automatic doors and it took us a while to remember which ones opened by themselves! BTW, we just bought an 06 Odyssey and we love it!

I don't know the brand name, but there is a pair at Home Cheapo for about $35. They have a little porthole that you can blow into, and it holds your warm breath in them to keep warm.

I need those!!! I have to go look for them today.

OP, when you said it got down to 30° my first thought was some of those knit ones you find all over should be fine for 30°, then I saw you are in Georgia :rotfl2: .

I have some Comfort Temp gloves from QVC that stay around 75 degrees inside the glove and are waterproof as well. These are the best gloves I have ever owned. No more cold hands for me since I received them.

Our school does that too.

I like isotoner (not leather). They fit so well you can do just about anything with them on. And at 30 they should be fine.
