I've only seen Fantasmic once when I went to Disneyland really young but I remember it being pretty great. Actually I heard from a friend that it's arguably worth the whole admission price to Disney! So I'd say yes then? Buy a dining package (recommend Hungry Bear) or get a FP as early as you can when you go?

Clarification: I’ve seen fantasmic about 3 times I’m just wondering if on the 4th we should be by the castle for fireworks .

How crowded do you like your fireworks viewing to be? Will it just be you and DH or will the kids be with you? If you don't mind being super crowded and camping out for hours for spots by the castle, then watch the fireworks from there. Otherwise, I'd totally go with F! We've viewed the patriotic 4th fireworks from the ROA before and loved the relative spaciousness and breathing room. We've also camped out by the castle on the 4th -- yes, great view, but overall, we prefer having more time for rides and more breathing room -- so I'd go with F!

Sounds to me you have one heck of a hubby! Woohoo! You are going to Disneyland on Independence Day! As for Fantasmic booking, I say, go for it.
