I'm going down to WDW in ocotober with a friend, and my family. My mom and dad have always been really really really over protective of me, and they are FINALLY letting my friend and i be on our own this vacation (keep in mind my friend and i are both 20 years old). We are DVC members, and my mom and dad got my friend and i are own 2 bedroom suite ad they are paying for my food and park hoppers and everything! I'm beyond thrilled, to say the least...

My question to all of you DIS'ers is the following:

I want to have a little gift basket of such in their room for them to thank them for allowing my friend and i to do this, and for trusting us and stuff.... do you have any suggestions of things i can put in there... i dont want to go completley borke doing this, but i do want to get them a few little things to thank them!

any suggestions would be super apreciated!

thanks in advance!

Depending on how much money you have, you could get them a massage at one of the spas!

Or some Mickey ears, and little Disney stuff!? I'm not sure on this one, but I think my parents would appreciate the spa...

I know my dad likes to have a midnight snack available - so maybe some munchies. Think about what they use at home all the time that they don't usually bring with them, like bedroom slippers. Or maybe a workout radio for listening to tunes while standing in lines. From one over protected child to another, good luck!

You should go with something personal. The personal touch is worth more money than you could ever spend. Even a nicely-worded note in an envelope left in their room to say thank you and how much they mean to you.

You could ask the front desk to have it delivered to their room while they are out (and they might even attach a couple of balloons).

I dont' really have any good suggestions for you, but they do have gift cards in WDW you can purchase that can be used anywhere.

Have fun when you go. Boy, I sure sympathize with you...I had VERY overprotective parents too! You wouldn't believe some of the crap....ah, but that's a different story... ;)

oh thank you all again!

I really like the personal letter idea! I'm a pretty creative person and i can't believe that i didnt think of that myself!

Do you know if the resorts will blow up balloons if we bring our own? Or do they have rules regarding they type of balloons we can bring (mylar, etc)?

You guys have been really helpful! Thank you all so much!

You may could call ahead and ask the resort...I know that for my mom's b'day, the resort left her a card and some balloons, so I know they have them. :thumbsup2

ok i called up SSR and told them my plan: which is to get a little gift basket and write a thank you note, and attach a couple balloons to be delivered to my parents room. But, the lady transfered me to Disney Florist.

I dont want to go through a florist or any other 'we make the basket for you' company because i want it to be personalized.

That said, does any one know if the front desk has the capabilty to just blow up a couple balloons or something.... or does anyone know where to get a WDW giftcard... can you get those at local disney stores????

thanks in advance, you all have been so helpful!

You can get the cards I know at WDW in almost any store. Maybe in the Disney Store too? Yes, the hotel does possess the capability to blow up balloons...just not sure how you would get them to do it.

suggestion:

how about a pic of you or you and your friend in a cute little disney frame, a letter or card thanking them and just some regular balloons from the park?

trust me - us parents love the thank you card thing, we eat up pictures of our kids and an "i love you" still melts our hearts - even if the kids in question are 20. (or 36)

what a lovely young woman you are to even think of thanking them.

i am sure they will love whatever you do for them.

I called up the Disney Store and they do sell giftcards to be used at Disney World, so i think that's the route we are going to take with a 'thank you' letter.

After thinking about it, I would rather go that route for them where they can put it towards something to remember the trip by, then get them a basket of candy or something they might never use.

I still might get them a couple balloons, but im re-thinking that idea because they might be nice to look at, but in the end the will just wind up in the garbage can.

The picture idea in the frame is a great idea! But I'm using that idea as part of a WAY belated birthday present for the friend thats coming down with me!!! I'm still debating on wether or not i'm going to tell her thats what im going to do for her and let her pick out the frame she wants, since she's never been to disney world.... or.... if i'm going to surprise her... decisions decisions.

But thank you all again!!!

You DIS'ers are so awesome!
