I've got two potlucks coming up, and neither one has given me any other guidance than "bring something!"

The first is a Youth Sleepover at our church. The kids were supposed to coordinate something, but of course they haven't, so it's a free-for-all. I'd like to send something not-too-messy, that doesn't require extra prep at the church, and which is hopefully somewhat healthy/protein-rich.

The second is a neighbourhood Block Party on Halloween night. I'd like to bring something fun. There may be a number of toddlers attending.

Any ideas? Favorites? Suggestions? :wizard:

One of my favorite go-to's that I always get the request for the recipe is super easy! I take one bag of frozen meatballs-toss them in a crockpot- mix up one bottle of Heinz chili sauce (over by the ketchup) and 1 smaller jar of grape jelly. I also put in a few dashes of cayenne pepper and let it cook!

They are devoured every time! You can do the same with little smokies!

not protein rich, but always goes over well with kids. Mac 'n cheese. Also, just made a big pot of sloppy joes in my crockpot yesterday.

You could make a pot of chili, have snack size bags of fritos and taco-style toppings...each person gets a bag and scoops chili, lettuce, tomatos, black olives, salsa, sour cream, etc, into their bag and when they are finished there is no clean up required. Just throw the bag and fork away. This is always a big hit, especially for kids and teens.

I always liked Taco Salad growing up. You mix it all together but maybe leave the doritos off and serve them on the side.

Taco Salad

1 head of iceburg letuce, shredded
4 tomatoes, chopped (I usually take the seeds out)
2 onions, diced
1 1/4 - 1 1/2 # ground beef, fried, drained and cooled (I quickly rinse too)
1 package shredded cheddar cheese, 2 cups
5 1/2 oz bag of Doritos, crushed
8 oz. French dressing
1 jar salsa

Mix everything together just before serving***add the Doritos last.

Baked ham sandwiches? They're individually wrapped in foil so they bake easily at home and stay warm.
