My DH and I are both quiting!! (no blood shed yet!)

Has anyone out there been through this??
How long do the intense cravings last???
We went to a hypnotisT and are taking different vitamins they seem to be helping! Say a little prayer for us that We can stick it out please!!

Thanks!!

You have my support. Its great you two are trying to stop. I have heard its very hard--I have never smoked so I dont know exactly how hard it is.
Have you tried the patches to slowly wean your body from nicotine? That might help some instead of going cold turkey.
PD and prayers for both of you.

Congratulations on 3 days. That's HUGE!

Philaround just quit before his Disney vacation. He's been ciggy free for about a month. Maybe you should PM him for his advice.

I've never had that addiction.. have other vices.. but I'm very proud of your dedication. From what I hear it is hard.. very hard at first, then it gets easier. Keep up the good work!

Good for you! Rock on! I quit in December of Last year. That was a month before my grandfather died due to complications of treatment for his lung cancer. He had been smoking for 40+ years.

I'll tell you this, the cravings might never go away, because nicotine is stronger and more potent than heroin. I suggest drinking LOTS of juices and water to flush most of the toxins out of your system. This helps a lot. Also, eat lots of fruits & veggies. Keep plenty of gum, and other chewables around at hand. That should help a little bit!

Now, here's some things you might not know about cigarettes & their companies:

Cigarettes contain urea which is found in your urine as well as dog poop. They also contain Propaline Glycol, the main ingredient in Anti-Freeze.

Cigarette companies fought and WON in supreme court to advertise their cigarettes within 100 feet of churches, schools and daycares.

and last but definately not least: Cigarettes contain Cyanide.

This is what we know... Imagine what we don't.

Congratulations on 3 days, Smoke Free! That is great. I cannot offer you any advice, but can offer loads of support.

Keep up the great work.

3 days!! That's great. I quit more than 13 years ago and can't imagine going back. I smoked menthol cigarettes and when my craving got really bad, I would brush my teeth with the mintiest (is that a word?) toothpaste I could find. It made my mouth feel wonderful and in no time the craving would subside.

Good luck!! That hardest part is over -- day 1.

Congratulations on day 3. Having never smoked, I can't offer much in the way of ideas to help you through this, but I can encourage you to stick with it. My husband quit smoking almost 11 years ago and he's much happier because he did. Keep up the good work.

You can do this, DON'T GIVE UP!!!

I quit almost 7 years ago, using the patch. I don't miss it, I don't have cravings and I can't stand the smell of smoke now.

Every day, take the money that you would have spent on cigarettes and put it in a container. Then, when you want to have a cigarette, look at all the money in the container.... just think how quickly it could add up to a trip to WDW.

Wow! 3 days is great! I've never smoked, still I make a great cheerleader. Hang in there and take it a day at a time. The jar of money sounds like a great idea.

When DH quit, he took a pack and dumped them out. He wrote a reason he shouldn't smoke on each cigarette. Then he put them in the package again. If he decided to smoke, he had to face the reasons why he shouldn't. He didn't smoke them. It worked for him.

My very best wishes to you both, momsal. Keep it up, you can do it. And you will so love the feeling and yourselves for it. A day at a time, just one at a time, and you have it licked. And that toughest first day is well behind you guys. My best.

Dan

Momsal-
Please, please - trust me - YOU CAN DO IT!!! I quit over 1 & 1/2 years ago and it was the best thing I ever did for myself and my family. I will not lie, it is REALLY HARD for the first month or so, you feel like an addict trying to break free of a horrible thing...and you are...but it is sooo worth it! Every day is a challenge and you just do what you can to get thru the day and I remember going to bed kinda early so I could sleep and not have to fight cravings. Also, go for walks, eat snacks (who cares if you gain 10 lbs. or so, you can call yourself a non-smoker-I can't tell you how GOOD that feels!), talk on the phone, post on the DIS:D Whatever you do, do not give into the first one - if you do, it is all over. You HAVE to completely quit. Everyday it does get easier. It is funny, after about 6 weeks, I woke up one day and was completely "over it". I have not had the desire since that day. But I do feel like the "addict" in the sense while at a party or out with smoking pals that I could have "just one", I know better. One turns into two, three, a pack. Anyway, my DH did not make it and still smokes. It is a problem sometimes for us cause I am losing tolerance. Again, I KNOW IT IS REALLY HARD!!! Do WHATEVER you need to do to succeed. You will not regret it and I send you much Pixie Dust and a few {{{HUGS}}} in support. Stay strong:D :D
P.S. The patches really do help

I quit almost a year ago, after smoking for 40 years. It was hard, and sometimes I found myself wondering if it was really worth it, but I kept going. I was truly surprised at how soon the cravings started getting lesser, and then went away.

I didn't use the patch, I went the Zyban route.

Prayers and pd sent from out west that you both can kick this thing. I have never smoked, so can't offer advice, but I can send support and prayers. Three days is awesome! Keep up the good work.

Thank You everyone for your support 5 days and counting!!!!!

Congrats on 5 days smoke free! I am sure you can do it!!!! Just take it one day at a time and you'll do great and be happy with the end results!

momsal- Keep up the good work!
