My daughter got silly putty from my mom in her Christmas stocking and today she took it with us when we left home to go to the dtore and I didn't know it. Well she ended up dropping it in her booster seat and sat on it. Now she has silver silly putter with glitter stuck to the seat of her good school blue jeans Does anybody know how to get it off of her jeans? I need help. I am afraid to wash them because I am afraid that it will melt and get all over the rest of that pair of jeans. I mean I would wash them by themselves so I won't have to worry about the putty getting on anymore. I know that one of you out there in Dis land has been through this and will have the magic answer from me. Thanks in advance.

I don't know if this would work but I would probably turn the jeans inside out and iron them??

I've gotten gum off of ds's pants by sticking them in the freezer until the gum was frozen, then scraping it off with a sharp knife. It worked pretty well. Maybe you could try that with the Silly Putty if no one else has a definitive answer for you. :)

As I was positing my orginal post on here I had the jeans sitting on the washer with a pile of ice sitting on them. I went back and was able to scrape a lot of it off so I think freezing it will work. So now I have put the jeans in to deep freeze. I have put them in my chest freezer. So if you guys hear about a crazy woman from North Carolina who had jeans in her freezer it will be me :rotfl:. Lord I just hope I don't die tonight LoL. That would be hard for my husband to explain to everybody why his crazy wife had jeans in the freezer. :rotfl2: . Thanks for all the help. I knew coming here and asking was the right thing to do. You guys are the greatest!

This is what I found when I Googled it:

1) After freezing, place an old towel behind the garment and soak the silly putty in alcohol. The silly putty should flake off. You might have to repeat a few times.

2) Rub salt into the silly putty.

I know this might be alittle late but I have soaked the silly putty in Mean Green and scraped it off. It worked great.

I'm glad the freezing was working for you! I have to admit, though, that I'm :rotfl2: here ! When DD was in 1st grade she got Silly Putty for Easter. (stinking aunts!! ;)) Anyway, we caught her trying to take it with her to bed & took it from her. I should have checked when I went to bed, but didn't expect her to sneak out of bed & get it again.

Evidently, she fell asleep with the egg clutched in her hand up near her ear. the egg had opened during the night & she had Silly Putty in her hair, on her pillow, on her jammies, on the sheets.... And of course it wasn't down near the ends of the strands of hair...it was right up against her scalp!

We tried ice, baby oil & who knows what else (DH kept telling me to cut it out, but she'd been nearly bald until she was 3 1/2 and it was finally down below her ears & I just didn't have the heart to do it!) but what finally worked best was Goo Gone! Of course it still took a nit comb to get it all out. When we took her to school (late) we couldn't figure out what to write on her excuse blank. So I decided to just ask the ladies in the office. After they stopped :rotfl2: they said "You can't write got Silly Putty in her hair!" but couldn't decide what to put down either. After some more :rotfl: they said to just write it down & dissolved into fits of giggles again, which finally brought the principal out of his office. So we had to tell the story all over again & got the same reaction from him...don't write it - oh heck, put it down. ;)

Thanks for the trip down memory lane! And I'm glad your experience with Silly Putty was less traumatic! :teeth:
