It seems the kitten doesn't like my new comforter - she peed on it. :( So I washed everything - and she did it again. Repeat!

Fortunately, nothing made it through to the mattress... and we want to keep it that way. The cat has never done this before, she doesn't go on my old comforter. The material on the new comforter does feel different from the old comforter and I wondered if that had anything to do with it.

My question is.... Will washing get out any residual odor on the comforter or do I need to have it dry cleaned or have some special process done to it? It smells clean to me, but my nose doesn't work as well as a cat's. Any idea why she's doing this?

If one of my male cats did this, I'd think he had a urinary problem, but the kitten is a 10 month female and every other time she has used the litter box.

My cat did the same thing when I changed comforters, somone had said to me they don't like change. I did take mine to the cleaners but lucky you, it didn't get on the matress, mine did....I bought some stuff at the vet and sprayed it and got the smell out, this was 4 yrs ago and she has never done it since...guess that little pep talk I gave to her worked, told her do it again and you are out the door, :)

Either there is an odor the cat can sense (that perhaps you can't) and is trying to cover it, OR, kitty is upset at the owner (You?) and is getting revenge. DON'T LAUGH! What has changed recently in the home?

This is being done on purpose and fuzzball is getting trying to get even.

My male cat does this to my feather comforter... I really really miss my comforter too!! It was a bit new and quite soft, I read that soft things can feel like the litter in the litter box. No matter how many times you wash the urine marked items the cat will still smell the urine and will keep on marking it. I use a great product called Nok-Out and Nature's Miracle. Any odor neutralizer will do though, I think. If you really want to be obsessive you can buy a black light lamp to find any urine stains.

My friend's DD's cat did this when her DD went to college. The vet said she was pouting! Is your cat pouting?????

No idea why she did it, I'd check with a vet, but I do know that ammonia completely eliminates urine odor! Take it from one who knows!

Much as people want to say it's the cat getting revenge, it's not really.

It may be *interpreted* as that, but it's not. :)

Cats really don't like change, and some react to change in a negative way -- like peeing on the object(s) that has changed.

In this instance, I'd get her checked out by the vet anyway just in case. If it is a UTI, you don't want to risk losing her because you didn't think it was one.

If it isn't a UTI, my guess is she's trying to get her scent/mark the new comforter because she is unfamiliar with it.

Just washing it most likely won't do the trick -- go to the pet store and see if you can find one of the enzyme cleaners that do a more thourough cleaning of pet odors. Otherwise she'll continue to use the comforter as a litterbox when her box is full or when she's upset.

I haven't had this with kitties, so I really don't know. Just wishing you good luck with kitty.:D

I'd lock her out until your smells got onto the new comforter after taking her to the vet to discuss problem. Did you change litter or something about it recently?
From experience your kitty is trying to tell you something.
Good Luck

I thought you weren't supposed to clean stuff like this with ammonia based cleaners?????

I heard it makes them think it's a marking place.

Hi, Have you had her spayed yet. She may be maturing and here female hormones are making her alittle nutty. I had the same problem. After she was spayed, she stopped doing it. Good luck! Patsy

She's been spayed and she's always been very good about using the little box - until I got this comforter.

Don't rule out a UTI because she is a female. Girl cats get them too! I had one cat who tended to get them occasionally. I could tell, because she would urinate on something soft. The vet said she may associate the litter box with painful urination, so she was looking for a soft place to go.

I agree with Joanne... females often get UTI too. I would have her visit the vet and check it out. :)

I just received my NEW Comforter in the Mail yesterday.:p Been afraid to put it on the bed, as one of my OLDER cats has a Hair ball/Puking problem. So, I am waiting until I can figure out WHAT to put on TOP of the comforter in case he does.....Maybe the OLD comforter?? Also, my younger one, has been Peeing OUTSIDE of the Litter Box! Have NO idea what that IS about!

The October issue of Cat Fancy has a good article about what to do about improper elimination problems. My furbaby Mystic had a problem until I set up a second box for her. I guess she prefers having a choice on where to go... You might also try to change the kind of litter you are using-it could be irritaing her paws.

Casey has her choice of three different litter boxes and it's the same litter we've always used.

Our vet has Saturday morning hours. We're calling first thing to have her take a look at Casey. I'm starting to believe it's a UTI, because she just went on the old bedding.

I'm so tired of changing my bed! :(
