I Need Help With a Theme

We're traveling with friends on our next trip and we'll have a lot of celebration in the weeks surrounding our vacation, so I thought I'd surprise everyone with a cake on our last night. I'd splurge and get a custom order, so now I'm trying to think of a fun theme. The ones I've thought of:

Lilo and Stitch ('Ohana means family) - these friends are closer than family, but none of us are particularly enamored of Lilo and Stitch.

Toy Story (You've Got a Friend in Me) - A bit on the nose, but we all have kids and they all like Toy Story, so it would be fun for them.

Mary Poppins (Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious) - Just a fun celebratory theme.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

How about something involving Peter Pan, Tink, the Darlings and the Lost Boys? 'Thanks for traveling to Neverland with us!' or 'Let's not be Lost in Neverland without each other again!' or 'I'd rather be Lost in Neverland with you' or 'Sometimes, family are people you find in Neverland.'

Yep, out of my budget - but I like the idea of a fireworks theme and keeping it generic. We're going to have myself, my husband, his childhood best friend and his wife (who's been one of my best friends for 14 years), our children (two boys, one girl) and their children (one boy, one girl), so it's tricky to think of one theme that would be fun for everyone.

I love the idea of the Ohana/lilo and stitch theme. Also, something classic maybe with the Fab 5 would work great. I've seen so many amazing cakes that the Disney bakeries have made. I think if you order, you could tell them some specifics of sizing, theme, what you need, want, and then let them come up with the rest, you wouldn't be disappointed at all. I saw a cute classic Mickey theme cake somewhere on the board that had a white chocolate monorail with it.

What a sweet and memorable gesture! Have fun! I'm actually trying to think of ideas for a 14th birthday cake for our son. We'll be there at his birthday this December.

Thank you! I'm leaning toward a generic theme - we'll be there during Halloween, so that's an option for a theme. And our last night (and where this will be) is on a fireworks cruise, so I could do a fireworks theme. Lots of fun options :).

Oh man! You have lots of great options. Halloween or fireworks themes would be awesome too!

Cake decorating is my other passion besides Disney World. Love it. I've been looking around online. Check out this awesome cake from Disney food blog. It reminded me of the old chip n dale and Donald cartoons. That would make an amazing cake.

There is also an awesome one with the Fab 5 and fireworks but I can't copy the link.

What a great friend you are! I love this idea! First of all I love your ideas!

You could also do Mickeys gang - Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, Goofy, Pluto, Pete, Chip, Dale, Pete (any combo or all)
The toy story gang
Winnie the Pooh and his friends

quotes - (from pooh) - "There are friends, There is family and then there are friends that become family"
"Here together, friends forever"-winnie the pooh

Is there a website where you can see what cake options WDW offers? We will be there during my cousins birthday and I'd love to have a cake at one of our dinners!

Thank you, everyone! I've added a few more ideas to my list :).

No, unfortunately they don't offer anything for you to pick and choose. You can order a "Podium cake" which is basically just a generic frosted cake at just about any TS restaurant, but they're not personalized and they are usually not good (defrosted, a little stale). Disney makes it somewhat difficult to get a custom cake, so I suggest reading through the "Official Cake Threads" here on the Dis. They have all the information for ordering, no matter where you are in the parks/resorts and people sometimes post their own cakes for inspiration on what to ask for.

I'd go with whatever your friends are most into, if possible. And a side thought: how many of you are going? If it's six, well...how about Big Hero 6? ;) If not, I think Toy Story would be super cute. It's Disney, I'm not sure there's such a thing as "too on the nose"...who goes to Disney for subtlety? ;)

Depending on what you are celebrating, you could always go with Alice and the gang with "a very merry un-birthday to you." You could have mad hatter, tweedle-twins, cheshire cat, etc, and make it more cool and funky that way.

Where are you staying? Could you do something linked to that so it will be tied to you overall trip theme?

I also really like the idea of giving general guidelines to the bakery and seeing what they come up with (tell them it is good friends, boys and girls, generally what you are celebrating) and let them do something amazing. Generally, if they are open to being creative (i.e., they don't ask for you to tell them EXACTLY what to do), I think this lets people have more fun with it and you can all be surprised!

We're staying at Bay Lake - I've thought about the Unbirthday idea. That Mad Hatter cake shape would be out of my budget, but I've been researching similar cakes and saw one that is a round Hatter cake (not the topsy turvy shape) and it could work.

I've been leaning more and more toward just letting the bakery go nuts, within a certain budget. I might give them a general theme, like Halloween since we'll be there (and be going) to MNSSHP earlier in the week.

I loooove the unbirthday idea! I've always wanted an unbirthday party! You could give unbirthday gifts, like little frames for everyone to put a pic from your trip in!

Maybe something Pooh themed? It's classic and covers the childhoods of many people. The bakery could wrap a quote around the cake and maybe shape it like a hunny pot complete with a few bees. Here are a couple quotes on friendship from Pooh. This is more on the touching side than planning a fabulous looking cake, I'm not sure what you are looking for.

I've heard they don't do Winnie the Pooh cakes at all. Apparently there's a dispute with AA Milne's heirs and it doesn't fall within their copyright to use it.
