Ok, so I just got glasses. I dont wear them though. My mom and dad say they look good on me, and I tell everyone else I have glasses and they laugh. I cant even get contacts in my eyes, cause I cant keep my eyes open. What should I do? Please help anyone.

just a thought but WEAR THEM! put it this way, would you rather wear them or get hurt badley because you didnt see the danger? Style is overrated in socioty thesedays and if ppl make fun of you for it just ignore them

not wearing your glasses will cause your eyes to be under even more strain, causing your eyesight to get much worse, much quicker.

I have been wearing glasses now for over 30 years. I can wear contacts but would rather wear glasses. Who cares what other people think. If they say "you look funny" just say this: "have you looked in a mirror lately?"

I've been wearing glasses for about 6 or 7 weeks now. Once, I was in exactly the same shoes as you thinking that everyone would be noticing how I'd look when i'd put them on full time. Then, when driving I was failing to notice brakelights when we went down a long busy roads; even when I had them on! I noticed that my shortsightedness had actually gotten worse and that I needed to wear them more; and I have ever since.

So, I put them on for one day to see what it's like and no-one cared! No-one even said "Hey, nice glasses!"; people were so used to seeing people with them they aren't really that bothered anymore!

My advice; wear them and if anyone makes fun just say "All the better to see your Uglyness.." or something like that. The world is so much better when it isn't a big fat blur.. :)

I've worn glasses since kindergarden, probably even earlier. I'm glad I got them that early, because kindergardeners aren't exactly known for teasing others about glasses, LOL. Ever since, I've moved up wearing glasses, and nobody cares. Actually, I think I look better with glasses than without. Just give some time to get used to them, and ignore what other people say (or go with mtlhddoc2's idea ;)).

Just wear your glasses...who cares what other people think. Earlier today people made fun of the way I laugh, oh well, I dont care. I like who I am and stick to it. :)

Good luck with the glasses. :)

If someone told you that you didn't look good with glasses tell them to suck it and that this girl named Emily thinks they're hot.

:lmao:

Think of them as jewelry for your eyes! And remember that the people around you are too busy worrying about what you think of them to pay that much attention!

Yeah, just wear them - you can do this!

Also watch old silly tv shows about glasses - like Jan Brady when she got glasses on the Brady bunch.... it is a funny episode and she looks good with or without the glasses! I'll bet you do, too!!

I used to have this problem, but I felt about 10x worse... my eyes are really bad. My eye doctor told me I needed to have glasses, with an eyepatch over them. My eyes were THAT bad... so when I got to 2nd grade, I had to have surgery on my right eye. My eyes were corrected for a couple years, but in 5th grade had to have the same surgery again. People looked at me like I was weird, because my right eye was red for about a month. Anyway, I have to wear them for just school, and you will be much better with them. Better safe than sorry!

At first you think you look dumb with them. You will get used to them. I've had my glasses since 1st grade. Now people say I look better with my glasses. I can't get contacts either. Since my left eye is lazy and it's always on the side.

Wear them. Everyone knows that glasses have an amazing ability to make you look awesome. Trust me.

Wear them!
I've had glasses since I was a freshman in high school. I wore contacts for a while after I got into college, but those went by the wayside since I have extreme sensitivities to the cleaning products.

<- See my pic? I still wear glasses. And always will. Unless my eyes somehow gets better like my dad's did. :goodvibes

Like cteddiesgirl, I've had glasses since freshman year of HS. Used to only need them to see the board from a distance, but as happens to a lot of us, all the reading and computer work in college and now grad school weakened my eyesight big time, and now I wear them a good amount of the day. I don't wear them when reading though (my close up vision is perfect) or when I'm just hanging around friends.

I understand what you're going through though. Even as old as I am (23), I still get self-conscious about my glasses at times, mostly when I'm at baseball games and surrounded by a bunch of girls that look like Barbie dolls come to life (seriously, who wears a ton of makeup and dressy clothes to the average baseball game? :sad2: )... but that is another story. :lmao: Even though I feel kind of awkward sometimes and like someone might make fun of me, I have a choice: 1. let people's possible negative opinions of my glasses be thwarted by not wearing my glasses at all or 2. being able to see the game well. I choose being able to see the game well. So my advice is of course to wear them and ignore the meanies out there. Better to be able to see than to try and change the opinion of people whose opinions don't really matter in the first place.

Hope things go better for you! Glasses take getting used to, but you will get used to them, I promise. :wizard:

Wear the glasses! Dont worry your friends will get used to them and so will you! I just started wearing contacts... Im already used to them! Oh. And i bet they really do look good on you! or.... if that doesnt work go w/ milkabums idea! :lmao:

Wear the glasses, mate. :) I was 8 when I first got mine, and I was so worried that I'd look funny and everyone would laugh at me. But when I got them on and could actually see the leaves on the trees as we drove home, well, I wear them all the time and I don't give a <removed> what people think. I have been made fun of a few times, but after 10 years I look better with glasses than without and nobody says a word. I bet you'll look great in yours, too. :) If someone makes fun of you, make fun right back.

Hi Captain Jack.

I wear glasses, and I have possibly the worst vision I can imagine. (20/1500) Therefore I NEED them or else I'm blind. (Actually without them I'm legally blind in some states. :p)

I didn't like them at first, they hurt my nose and my ears. After a while I got used to it and so will you.

Good luck.

P.S. I'm getting contacts this summer, I've been practicing touching my eye. :p

People just aren't used to you in the glasses yet...pretty soon they will think you look wierd when you *don't* where them. It will take a little getting used to, but being able to see is worth it.

I have had glasses since... kindergarten maybe longer. If they are confortable and your mom and dad will let you wear them when your sleeping.
You will get used to it. I never do anything without my glasses exept in the summer when we are learning how to hit the soccer ball with our heads in soccer practice
