I have some airline credits that I told my daughter she could use. She gave me a list of four places she would like to go to and told me to pick one and book the flight. So here is what I need help with:

Which destination will be safe for a young (22 year old) woman to travel to by herself, more of my concern than hers ;) ?

Which destination has plenty of things to do and see?

She will rent a car if she needs to, but if she doesn't have to do that it will be money she can spend on other things. So which destination has more to do that she can walk to or take easy local transportation?

Any areas to avoid? Decent hotel recommendations?

Here is her list:

Tucson,AZ
San Antonio, TX
El Paso, TX
Albuquerque, NM

She will be going in Feb.

I've been to 3 of those places, but it was a long time ago so I don't know how they've changed.

Thanks in advance.

I love San Antonio! The Riverwalk is great, and you don't need a car to get around if you stay right there. I don't have any other recommendations, just thought I'd add my 2 cents.:goodvibes

When I saw the list I thought how great the Riverwalk is, but is there enough to do for 5 days? Again, it's been so long since I've been there.

I thought the Riverwalk was nice too, for one day. We traveled around SA then, and there were some not so nice places there.

How about Tuscon or NM?

What about Florida and she could lay on a beach?

She isn't a lay on the beach kind of person. I suggested Florida and San Francisco, but she wasn't interested in either of those places. So, she gave me her short list of places and told me to chose one. Personally I think she'd love San Francisco, but oh well what do I know?

We've been to all those places, but just passes through El Paso.

What time of year is she going? IWhat does she like to do? Is she going alone?
I love Tucson in the spring. She can-
Go to a spring training game
Go to the wonderful Desert Museum. Wildlife.
The Botanical Garden is lovely.
Lots of funky little shopping spots downtown.
Hiking, hiking everywhere.
Great birdwatching, if she's into that.
Go to Kitt's Peak Observatory. THey have tours.
If she goes end of Feb, she can go for rodeo.
People are friendly in Tucson and it's easy to get around.

San Antonio has the riverwalk, the Alamo, some nice parks outside of town. She can also drive up to Austin. Go to the LBJ ranch. Drive up to the HIll COuntry.

Depends on what she likes to do.

I traveled by myself when I was younger. In fact, I spent 2 days alone in Tucson once while waiting to meet up with friends to go up to Grand Canyon.

I would not really bother with El Paso especially if the main reason she is interested in it is to go to Juarez...safety issues and concerns have grown in the area according to my friends and family who still live there.

San Antonio should be fun, but I have never been there myself so no personal experience to share lol.

As a border resident in Texas, I have to agree with the concerns and safety issues in El Paso. San Antonio is nice. DH went to college there-beautiful city.

Thanks for the input! I spent some time today researching her choices (except for El Paso) and I think I am going to book her a flight to Tucson.
