I first want to thank all you Disney Brides for all the help you provide future brides on this site... It's just full of information

I am looking into have a DISNEY ESCAPE Wedding. I called Disney because I have 23 people incl. the bride and groom so we are over the "Disney Limit"
The girl we spoke to was awesome and said they could work around it since 2 of the guest are children so I think I am sticking to the ESCAPE PACKAGE...

Now I would like to have our guest eat food not only cake and enjoy their day...

I need ideas, Disney Suggested having the ceremony, and little cake set-up right after, but not cutting the cake till after dinner...

What did you ladies do?

Well, I was the groom, but I will answer anyway ;)

Our wedding was at noon, so we had a reception lunch instead of a reception dinner. We did the cake cutting, Disney boxed the two layers of teh cake and we took it to our lunch venue (Fulton's) After lunch, we cut the cake again (top layer) and stuffed with it as dessert :goodvibes

Congratulations on your event!

We got married at ten and did the cake cutting right after cause our lunch ressie was for like 12:30 I think...

We had our lucheon ast GF cafe...didn't like it at all. Wish we went to Ohanas or somewhere else but I went there for looks and it was disappointing.

You can pack up the cake and save it but I would make sure you guys do your cake cutting for just you two that way you get pictures by your photographer.

I am really surprised they let you go over the limit. I was originally going to have an Escape, but I went to 20 guests and two of them were infants and they said NO! :confused3

I think I'd be careful and get this in writing - in 4 years on the weddings board I've never heard of them allowing an Escape bride to go over the 20 person limit, and 3 of my guests we kids, one was even under 3, so basically invisible to Disney in every other category but Escape weddings.

Anyway, we did our ceremony at 2:30 followed by cake cutting where everyone ate cake. The rest (we ordered a lot) was boxed up and put in our room and then we took everyone to Narcoossee's for a fantastic dinner at 5:30. Dinner was 4 courses and included another dessert, which everyone ate. After that we did a Wishes cruise and then gave everyone more cake to take with them - which we were told 2 days later all got eaten - some that night! I loved every part of what we did and would do it the same way again in a heartbeat!

I am an Escape bride as well and we are planning on a 2:30 ceremony. We plan to cut the cake right after the ceremony for pics, etc. I know I'll eat the cake then for sure as I'll just be dying to taste it...but I hear it's a ton of cake so we'll have them box the rest. We are then going to have a 5pm dinner at OHana's (which includes a separate dessert) followed by a wishes cruise. If there's a ton of cake left we'll send some with our guests at the end of the night.

You will have a ton of cake left over!! We nibbled on the bottom layer through out the honeymoon and my MIL took the top layer home for us.

It was soooo good!!! YUM!

As far as I know even infants count as guests in regards to an Escape package. The person you spoke to on the phone was only a receptionist and not a wedding coordinator. I don't think you will be allowed to go over the limit. If there is no way to cut the guest list than you should start researching whether or not a Wishes wedding will work for you.

There are many locations to have a meal after the ceremony. It's up to you on what you are looking for and what time your ceremony is.

We had our wedding at 3:00 pm and then had the cake cutting. Dinner was at 5:30 pm at YSH. Timing worked out great. The cake got boxed up and delivered to our suite afterwards and we nibbled on it all week.

I'm also planning an escape wedding. DF and I have both been married once before, so we're looking for something a little less traditional. We'd like to have a nice dinner at California Grill on the evening before the wedding, have a late morning wedding ceremony, and take a group over to Mickey's Very Merry Christmas Party on the evening of the wedding instead of having a reception (we're aiming for a Tuesday in December).

As far as children are concerned, I'm (as politely as possible) letting guests with children know that if we reach our guest count limit, they may have to make arrangements for a babysitter during the ceremony. Children will be welcome to attend any events other than the wedding itself.

Emily Post would probably not approve of the way I'm approaching it, but our guests have been very understanding so far, and we're addressing the issue by word of mouth waaaaay before invitations or save the dates are sent out.

We're also purposely choosing date when most little ones are in school - between Thanksgiving and Christmas :-)

a friend told me that etiquette doesn't pay for the wedding...this is the best piece of advice I've gotten since planning the wedding...I vote for what she said!

Thank you all for your responses.

I am a bit worried, I originally spoke to the receptionist and she told me to talk to the contract person because only she would be able to okay the 23 person situation.

Disney called me and when I told them my issues with the kids she was very flexible. She pretty much said that as long as it stayed at 23 total including the bride and groom she could make it work.

She also mentioned that she would talk to my coordinator and work around it. I can't say no to the kids since they are family and part of the wedding party.

I will call again to double check.

Thanks all!!

Love the idea of MVMCP, I got engaged during it on 12/2 in fact:thumbsup2 Great idea, and so much fun for your guests ;)
